Hiring Unit: Office of First Nation and Inuit Education (OFNIE)

Course Description: Development of Indigenous skills and knowledge in art, music, handicrafts and other areas both modern and traditional. Topics will vary and be chosen from a range identified by instructors and students.

Exigences de Qualification Pour L'Enseignement/Teaching Qualification Requirements (TQRs):

TQR Éducation/Education

  • A Master’s degree (in exceptional circumstances applicants without a Master’s degree but with significant research or professional experience related to the course content may be considered)
  • Teaching degree or equivalent and experience teaching in schools
  • Knowledge of the Quebec Education program (QEP)
  • Familiarity with the 12 professional competencies specified in the Ministère de l’Éducation
  • Expert knowledge of course content

TQR Expérience/Experience

  • Experience teaching in the Quebec elementary school system;
  • Previous successful experience teaching similar course(s) to pre-service teachers;
  • Must be available to attend course coordination and planning meeting minimum of  2 weeks in advance of the course start date
  • Preferred candidate will have demonstrated cultural awareness of and sensitivity to Indigenous issues in First Nations and Inuit contexts and connection to First Nations and Inuit communities. 
  • The candidate will have previous experience teaching similar courses in Indigenous communities.

  • The University may, at its discretion, assign a person of its choice to give this Course/Teaching.
  • Art 15.07 The candidate shall submit her application in writing, in hard copy or electronically to the Department Chair, indicating, in order of preference, on the form reproduced in Appendix 11 the Courses in which she is interested and the number of Courses she wishes to give, during the posting period specified in article 15.04 a).

Please note that, government directives permitting, it is anticipated that most courses will be taught in person. Should government restrictions prohibit in-person teaching, courses will revert to remote teaching. In the event of such a change, Course Lecturers will be advised without delay. Course Lecturers may be required to prepare and deliver teaching material suited to a remote/online teaching environment using a virtual learning platform (e.g., Zoom, WebEx) and the McGill myCourses learning management system. Training and assistance on remote teaching is available through Teaching and Learning Services (TLS) .  Course Lecturers are encouraged to record their lectures.
