NAIT’s Department of Continuing Education is seeking contract instructors to teach high school Chemistry grade 11 and/or grade 12 courses during the 12-week Spring term, May to July. The Academic Upgrading program will be offering daily on-campus delivery during the daytime for the full term.
The Spring 2024 on-campus courses will be delivered daily in the classroom for 1 – 2 hours between May 6 to July 26, 2024. We are seeking instructors who have experience in teaching the AB Chemistry High School Education Learning Outcomes. A contracted instructor must have a desire to maintain positive and professional interactions with adult learners at a variety of skill levels, ages, and backgrounds. Instructors must also be able to engage students in interesting and innovative lessons within the classroom.

NOTE: Those invited for an interview will be asked to do a short online demonstration lesson as part of the selection process.
Contract Instruction Deliverables:
- Provide classroom instruction using an outcomes-based educational approach in a grade 11 or grade 12 high school Chemistry course.
- Utilize appropriate educational technology for communications and course delivery.
- Apply classroom management strategies to maintain an effective in-person learning environment for students.
- Prepare, select learning materials, and deliver lessons or activities that directly support the course Learning Outcomes in a classroom environment.
- Create and administer in-person assessments according to Learning Outcomes
- Evaluate and assess student learning and performance.
- Maintain student attendance and other documentation as required.
- Liaise with the Academic Upgrading staff and colleagues to ensure content relevance, consistent delivery of course materials and testing across sections.
- Maintain professional ethical relationships with students and colleagues.
- Respond professionally to student issues and concerns.
- Seek feedback from students on instructional effectiveness.
Skills & Abilities:
- Energetic in leading and motivating students
- Well-developed communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Excellent classroom management and instructional skills
- Proficient in use of NAIT-supported tools for online course delivery, including Moodle, Microsoft Teams, and/or WebEx.
- Ability to prepare, create, deliver, and modify course content to meet varying student learning needs.
- Strong orientation to student success and satisfaction and empathetic to student needs
- Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills
- Computer skills related to course delivery.
- Strong online technology skills
- Strong understanding of AB High School Biology curriculum
Qualifications:
- Related B.Ed. or B.Sc. degree preferred.
- Proficient in using learning technologies.
- Related instructional experience at the high school or post-secondary levels an asset
