Position Summary:
Reporting to the Senior Communications and Marketing Manager, the Communications and Marketing Officer is responsible for overseeing and contributing to the content strategy for McGill Athletics and Recreation’s (A&R) digital and traditional assets. They will contribute to the development of the brand strategy to further the reach of Athletics and Recreation, both on-campus and off, while promoting a consistent image of McGill as a major institution of international calibre.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with the Senior Manager, Communications and Marketing, develop and manage a marketing and engagement strategy for internal and external Recreation partners.

  • Manage diverse projects, while ensuring even exposure, and correct branding for McGill Recreation

  • Develop and implement communication plans in a manner consistent with A&Rs mission and goals

  • Provide professional communications advice, support and quality control to advance strategic and operational goals.

  • Supervise the implementation of the brand guidelines

  • Analyze web and social media trends in order to make data-based decisions

  • Establish and maintain a multi-channel content strategy to promote the programs and stories emerging from A&R through storytelling.

  • Assist in the development of key community partnerships to further expand the McGill reach

  • Create dynamic, tailored content for all social media channels

  • Oversee and contribute to the creation and content development of seasonal newsletters.

  • Oversee a small team of digital and community engagement administrators and ensure outreach matches the marketing and brand strategy for Athletics and Recreation

  • Supervise casual employees during the academic year to assist with further enhancing the brand and engagement tools used to promote recreation and sport medicine activities.

  • Develop and maintain a multi-channel content strategy to increase visibility of A&R both on and off campus.

  • Ensure best practices and continuous improvement: develop web style standards and guidelines; research new technology options; track and measure site effectiveness

  • Manage the purchasing of paid digital content including social media marketing, SEO, and display advertising

  • Support special A&R projects, as needed


Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Commerce/Management or related area. At least five years pertinent experience in marketing and social media. Professional knowledge of mass market social media channels and their respective best practices, operating methods and advertisement offering. Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Adobe Creative Suites (e.g. Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop) Professional experience with Google Analytics, web design (square space, WordPress and Drupal). Experience in varsity and recreation an asset. Excellent written skills; demonstrated success writing digital marketing content. Supervisory experience a must. Passion for digital marketing; strong awareness of emerging trends in communications. Strategic and creative thinker. Strong interpersonal skills to effectively deal with colleagues, students and external partners. Demonstrated ability to deal with confidential topics. Bilingual English and French, written and spoken.

Annual Salary:

(MPEX Grade 04) $57,330.00 - $85,990.00
