What responsibilities will you have in this role?

– Provides leadership to the Technical Services team in acquisitions and cataloguing.
– Co-ordinates the research, evaluation and implementation of processes and policies to monitor and track book/periodical budgets, to ensure acquisitions procedures are accurate, efficient and effective.
– Ensures the latest cataloging protocols are followed and works with the college consortium and other committees to advance or adopt new protocols or to revise existing practices.
– Tracks budgets allocated to LLC collections and keeps the LLC financial systems updated with the most recent budget information.
– Creates and produces budget reports for LLC collections and interpret spreadsheets to explain budget increases or unsupplied materials as requested by the Library Management.
– Develops the collections budget projections for a new fiscal year for print books and journals, electronic books, journals, databases and streamed content making recommendations for increases-based changes anticipated (e.g. inflation, new formats, new teaching programs, librarians requests for new titles, consortium projects, etc.).
– Researches and makes recommendations for implementation when new methods/systems are identified to support acquisitions.
– Designs and delivers staff training on the use of new services/procedures for acquisitions services.
– Liaises with the commercial service providers (e.g. EBSCO and Coutts) to convey service requirements, system/process performance, and resolve complaints.
– Coordinates the completion of large batch cataloguing, and assigns Library Technicians to cataloguing tasks as needed.
– Ensures that collections meet the latest professional standards and that the quality of cataloguing meets the level of accuracy and level of detail required (e.g. complete information provided, correct use of cataloguing fields, notes, etc.).
– Serves on Acquisition, Cataloguing, and Digital Repository Committees of the college consortium to research new resources, develop process guidelines, and implement best practices (e.g. Bibliographic Standards Working Group, Decolonized Catalogue Committee, ILS Migration Cataloguing and Metadata Subgroup, Acquisitions Sub group, etc.).
– Coordinates the gathering and data entry of LLC Service and Resource statistics within specific cycles and timelines and monitors the quality and accuracy of reports produced.
– Coordinates the work of e-resource Technicians to ensure smooth access and operation of e-resources.
– Leads projects pertaining to selected new web services and tools for acquisitions and services (e.g. digital repository, e-book repository, etc.).
– Provides reference and research assistance to demonstrate the formulation of a search and assist users to find content for their research assignments from various formats such as print, online and media.
– Other related duties as assigned.

What qualifications do you need for this role?

– Three-year diploma/degree or equivalent from a recognized post-secondary institution in Library Technician is required.
– Required: intermediate courses in Web-related programming, such as HTML, CSS for web content management; intermediate courses in Excel, MS Office Applications, and Database Design for statistics, repositories and various library projects; intermediate to advanced courses in Cataloguing and Subject Analysis; certifications required for the library LSP (e.g. ExLibris Admin Certification.).
– Minimum of five years’ practical related experience in implementing eServices (eBooks and journals, streamed content) and technical know-how to set up systems e.g. EDI, Ebsco Net, streaming, PDA. Experience with coordinating library collection budgets, dealing with library vendors and consortiums, and problem-solving technical services.
– Experience providing guidance, and assistance in the use of web services and eResources and searching library databases and comfortable providing group presentations.
– Training facilitation experience will be considered an asset.
– In-depth knowledge of collection formats, technical infrastructure needed to support eResources, web services e.g. (Primo, EDS, Springshare, ILS (Sirsi, ExLibris), and office products excel, word, access, adobe etc.
– Well versed in cataloguing and classification principles and Understands tools such as research guides and demonstrates ability to adapt to new technologies.
– Strong problem solving and decision-making skills to identify problems, determine possible solutions, and select appropriate actions.
– Exceptional project management, time management, multitasking and organizational skills; ability to complete tasks and meet deadlines, while working with competing priorities and interruptions.
– Ability to lift up to 20 kg or 44 lbs (i.e., books, periodicals, computers).
– Demonstrated commitment in delivering excellent service to others as this is key in supporting the success of our students and our College.

– Effective ability to interact with others and deal with situations in ways that respect diverse backgrounds, experience, and styles.

Hours of Work: 9:00am – 5:00pm
Interview process may consist of a practical skills component.
