NAIT’s Computer Network Administrator program (CNA) is a one-year certificate program that provides students with the fundamental knowledge and hands-on technical skills required to be successful in today’s information technology world. The CNA program teaches students foundational technology skills, core knowledge areas, and strategies for being successful. Students get specialized training with up-to-date applied technology with a focus in supporting secure servers and network infrastructures using on premise and cloud technologies.

The successful candidate should be an energetic leader, committed to student success, have strong organizational skills, with excellent communications skills in both written and oral English. Strong analytical, problem solving, critical-thinking and decision-making skills are required.

We are looking to fill the following courses:

COMP1000 – Client/Server Fundamentals – This course covers hardware components of servers and workstations. Students will also learn how to configure client and server operating systems in a network environment.

PRGM1000 – Scripting Fundamentals – This course covers programming to tasks in the IT profession using Python. Students will create modular programs and scripts that use iteration, decision-making, and information processing. Students will implement algorithms and analyze, debug, and troubleshoot programs.

COMP1300 – Virtualization – This course covers the fundamentals and rationale for server virtualization. Students will install and configure virtual hosts and networks with current technologies. Students build their own mini cloud environment.

PROJ1000 – Technical Project I – Building something as complex as a computer network relies on the timely completion of interdependent smaller components. Under supervision, students will build a network based on a given scenario while demonstrating teamwork, technical skills, research abilities, and professionalism.

The successful candidate will have the following skills:

  • Strong knowledge of IT fundamentals.
  • On premise virtualization using Hyper V, System Center Virtual Machine Manager, ESXi and vCenter Server.
  • Microsoft Azure and other cloud computing services including migration and deployment.
  • Administering and managing multi-site directory services in Windows Server.
  • Experience with M365 and Endpoint Management.
  • Imaging software to deploy/upgrade/migrate computers.
  • Troubleshooting methodologies and help desk ticketing systems.
  • Experience with Python and automating IT tasks.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct classroom/lab instruction while utilizing appropriate instructional strategies to maximize student motivation and learning in a skill-building environment.
  • Assist in designing, developing, selecting and revising course curriculum and materials on a continuous basis, using the Institute prescribed process
  • Evaluate the learning process:  Ensure learning is evaluated in a reliable and timely manner, providing appropriate and timely feedback to students; Submit marks/records promptly.
  • Provide coaching or referral for students who are experiencing difficulties in order to maximize retention and student success.
  • Use the institute-approved process to regularly solicit feedback on instruction from students and use the results to improve instructional delivery.
  • Utilize appropriate educational technology for communications, presentations, and program promotion.
  • Maintain professional and ethical relationships with students and colleagues.
  • Maintain contact with relevant industries.
  • Develop and revise course material and curriculum on an ongoing basis to ensure relevancy to industry standards and to maximize student success.

 

Qualifications:

  • A degree (preferred) or diploma in computer or network administration or related discipline would be an asset.
  • Related industry experience is required.
  • Previous curriculum development or delivery would be an asset.

 

Applicants with education credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentials evaluated by World Education Services or the International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS).

 

Remuneration: $99 per instructional hour (SIH)

This position is covered by the NAIT Academic Staff Association (NASA) Collective Agreement

 

Please Note: As part of the interview process, candidates selected for an interview will be required to do a teaching demonstration (5-8 minutes) on any topic covered in the program that showcases your passion, creativity, and innovation. You can present any phase of the lesson (around 5-8 minutes), and the panel will act as your students.
