Duties and Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Cash Office Supervisor the incumbent is responsible for receiving and accurately recording payments from students, faculty, departments, staff, and outside agencies on behalf of the University. The incumbent must also ensure the appropriateness of taxes recorded and the maintenance of supporting documentation. Further to these duties the incumbent is expected to have considerable contact with the University’s students and administrative staff and assist in the formulation of new policies and procedures as they affect cash operations. The incumbent also identifies areas of exception to policy or non-compliance to (HST) legislation in relation to revenue and/or revenue recognition and/or general opportunities for training to the user community.


Qualifications:

The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:
• Must understand the accounting principles used in the posting of transactions to the general ledger and sub-ledger accounts.
• Knowledge of reconciliation techniques is required to validate multi-system deposits as well as to perform year end reporting.
• A good understanding of the tax rules for the sale of goods or services in a university setting is required to properly determine situations where taxes must be assessed.
• Must be articulate and possess good interpersonal skills due to the high level of customer contact.


Education and Experience:

The above is normally acquired through the completion of:
• Completion of Secondary School plus two years in accounting or bookkeeping at the post-secondary level.
• 3 years experience in accounting/bookkeeping, including 3 years utilizing a computerized cash/accounting system.
