The Opportunity
The Business Systems Analyst position, reporting directly to the Director, Academic Systems, offers an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in the evolution and support of academic business processes, associated technical systems and providing efficient coordination to the Academic Operations Group work within the Academic Division. You will support the Director and Academic Systems team, in collaborating with senior operational leaders and teams from academic schools ensuring their work aligned with Labour Relations, Business Process Development and Improvement and Relationship Management is streamlined and efficient.
 
This will involve gathering and documenting client/user business needs, developing and innovating business processes, implementing and sustaining technical solutions, and providing business and data analysis of metrics for continuous improvement, reporting and business case development. You will act as an essential link between our end users and the technical team responsible for updating and maintaining software systems translating business needs into technical requirements.
The Role
    • Technical Systems (40%)
    • Translate academic business needs into comprehensive technical requirements for seamless integration into software systems, ensuring clear communications and understanding of requirements between functions.
    • Innovate and sustain technical systems which enhance academic business processes to improved performance and functionality.
    • Develop and maintain documentation for technical systems, support processes and regularly review and enhance for user clarity.

    • Project Advancement and Process Improvement (40%)
    • Collaborate across academic schools to complete comprehensive needs analysis and document stakeholder requirements to establish common academic business processes.
    • Facilitate project coordination, timelines and resources of key academic operational projects, to ensure on-time delivery and alignment with stakeholder expectations.
    • Analyze current processes, identifying inefficiencies and proposing innovative solutions.

    • Administrative and Coordination Support (20%)
    • Coordinate operational logistics for meetings, project schedules, and ensure effective collaboration with both internal teams and external partners to support department requirements.
    • Facilitate workshops and training sessions to drive adoption of new processes and technologies.
    • Foster relationships, contribute to business planning, and implement client service level agreements (SLA) to enhance departmental efficiency and alignment with organizational goals.
    • Promote a safe and healthy work environment by adhering to Health Safety and Environment (HSE) standards, and facilitate comprehensive onboarding and training for department employees to ensure high performance and compliance.

Qualifications & Experience
    • Minimum:
    • Degree or diploma Business Administration or Information Technology
    • Over 5 years of experience in a similar role preferably in an academic or educational setting
    • Proficiency in Structured Query Language (SQL) and/or core competence in coding
    • Proficiency in business process analysis and data analysis
    • Proficiency creating Argos reports for users and creating software technologies (Smartsheet, Logiforms, Microsoft suite and Tableau)
    • Demonstrate project management or coordination capabilities
    • Exceptional curiosity, connection, citizenship, creativity and critical thinking capabilities
    • Strong analytical skills and experience in business system and data analysis

    • Preferred:
    • Master's degree in a relevant field
    • Experience with academic systems in a postsecondary institution
    • Experience in Labour Relations

Job Classification: Business Analyst
Salary: $63,000 - $85,000
Paid Leave: 4 Weeks Vacation/14 Flex Days per year
Hours Per Week: 37.5
