Faculty/ Unit : School of Continuing Studies, Dean's Office - Finance & Administration


Position Summary:

McGill University’s School of Continuing Studies is a dynamic multidisciplinary entity, situated within a renowned, research-intensive university, with a mandate to meet the professional, cultural & personal development needs of a rapidly changing society.

Reporting to the Director of Finance and Administration, the Business Process Manager is responsible for managing process improvement initiatives, and for the high-level integration of systems, training plans, and procedures across the School. The incumbent will work with newly formed domains and existing units to develop, execute, and evaluate effective business processes that facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration and help the School achieve its strategic goals.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develops and manages process improvement projects in collaboration with stakeholders.

  • Analyzes logistics and the efficiency of processes and operations and provides change recommendations to the senior management team.

  • Applies statistical analyses and establishes measurable indices of performance related to School logistics and efficiency of processes.

  • Identifies and analyzes changes that can be implemented immediately to urgent needs.

  • Creates and updates polices and Standardized Operating Procedures (SOP) for administrative practices and systems across the School.

  • As the key liaison, supports administrative staff on the implementation new initiatives and other changes.

  • Prepares and provides training to staff.

  • Identifies any new reporting requirements.

  • Hands-on participation in resolving urgent operational issues, as required.

  • Advise the Director on these and related matters.

  • Performs other related duties as required.


Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities

  • Undergraduate degree and five (5) years' related experience

  • Demonstrated business process skills and “how to” experience, e.g., development and monitoring of administrative processes and policies, budgets, metrics in the Education/Corporate Training field;

  • Strong written and oral communication skills (English and French);

  • Commitment to lifelong learning and entrepreneurial educational approaches.

  • Superior analytical skills and proven ability to make sound decisions when applying and interpreting policies and procedures;

  • Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to establish and maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders at all levels;

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively plan and delegate assignments, review work, supervise staff, collaborate with others, and work successfully in a group setting; 

  • Proven ability to manage and respect competing deadlines and to adapt to changing circumstances;

  • Strong problem-solving skills, and ability to mobilize resources required to achieve results and empower others to achieve common goals;

  • Working knowledge of the planning and management of human and financial resources, including institutional budgeting, contract administration, academic affairs and recruitment;

  • Ability to work in a PC environment using databases, spreadsheets, statistical and visualization tools to produce analyses and reports.

Annual Salary:


(MPEX Grade 05) $65,500.00 - $81,870.00 - $98,240.00
