Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Operations Manager, the Business Process Manager EHS will manage the planning and implementation of the myLab IT initiative to respond to the University’s needs, goals and mission. Provides expertise to the University research community on myLab issues pertaining to user end functionality, customer support, applications, installation and testing of hardware. Delivers a variety of in-person and virtual training workshops, including knowledge-based videos.  Create user documentation and instructional material. Support activities related to the myLab information system.
Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manages and responds to all customers daily needs to the myLab information system (access request, data management, report requirements, permit modifications, training) and help desk support.

  • Provides the planning, integration, development, implementation and maintenance of the myLab information system for all Environmental Health and Safety program applications (radiation safety, asbestos, chemical safety, biosafety, laboratory inspections, occupational health, and laser safety) for faculties and FMAS units.

  • Participates in the development and implementation of the various Regulatory Agency requirements in the myLab information system.

  • Designs and configures myLab information system in collaboration with IT for layout, design functionality and user interface.

  • Provides expertise on user end issues related to the application, operating systems, management, training, user documentation, testing of the hardware and software components.

  • Manages the migration of all information systems to new platforms including all data transfers.

  • Responsible in overseeing all incoming requests for modifications to the myLab information systems and completes required Business Needs.

  • Advises and makes recommendations in all new projects of the myLab information system and Safety Data Sheets (SDS) database.

  • Maintains the University’s extensive inventory collection of hazardous materials and manages the availability of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for the McGill community.

  • Participates and makes recommendations in IT meetings representing the needs of the various users (EHS, Regulatory Agencies and the University research community)

  • Develops User Acceptance Testing (UAT) test plans and scenarios

  • Participates and oversees all Call for Tenders related to information systems for Environmental Health and Safety.

  • Creates IT reference material, instructional material, promotional material, training documentation, handouts and knowledgebase videos related to myLab.

  • Presents specific training documents and workshops based on the needs of the University community.

  • Provides communication strategies for rollout of various myLab modules to the University community. 

  • Supervises Environmental Health and Safety officers during myLAB implementation and modifications of new modules . Ensures that subject matters expertise are maintained through coaching and troubleshooting .

  • Produces quarterly reports and presents myLab matters at University Safety Committees.,

  • Liaises with vendors and suppliers regarding any issues with the myLab information system and the Safety Data Sheets (SDS) database.


Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities

Experience in systems analysis, business process analysis and mapping. Basic knowledge of applied sciences (Example: Chemistry, Biology, Physics). Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple projects with deadlines. Strategic thinker, action-oriented and results-driven. Customer focused with an ability to build constructive relationships and provide sound operational advice. Listening, problem solving and organizational skills. Able to communicate effectively and train individuals and groups. Strong ability to work in a PC environment. Bilingual (English and French).Undergraduate degree (Science and/or Information Systems) is an asset.


Minimum Education and Experience:


Bachelor's Degree 3 Years Related Experience with Bachelor’s Degree / DEC III 5 Years Related Experience with DEC III


Annual Salary:


(MPEX Grade 05) $65,500.00 - $81,870.00 - $98,240.00
