Your opportunity:

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President (Innovations, Partnerships and Entrepreneurship), the Business Development Officer identifies opportunities to advance the financial support of university research through industry and other partnership opportunities, and related granting opportunities. The University has set an ambitious, achievable goal of expanding industry partnerships and the incumbent will develop strategies and initiatives towards this goal.

In addition to working with external stakeholders and partners, the incumbent interacts with University researchers to support their efforts in developing and leveraging industry interactions through various partnered funding opportunities; provide excellent knowledge of funding and support programs for industry-academic research collaborations; develop and implement strategies to cultivate new industrial partnerships with UofT; and facilitate linkages between potential industry partners and University researchers.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Identifying potential new research partners, including from industry, facilitating introductions and creating connections to the U of T research community
  • Researching and recommending new research funding opportunities for external collaborations and partnerships
  • Providing potential industry collaborators with detailed information on policies and procedures that must be adhered to while working within the university environment
  • Building and strengthening relationships with stakeholders and partners of strategic importance
  • Promoting the University’s research capabilities to industrial, governmental and finance sectors to enhance research and innovation funding opportunities
  • Fostering and maintaining networks to build capacity and collaboration

Essential Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in science, engineering and/or business, or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Six to seven years experience in relationship or research management with a demonstrated track record of success.
  • Minimum one year experience in marketing, intellectual property management, contract or technology development experience.
  • Excellent research, analytical, negotiation, entrepreneurial, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Creative problem solving.

USW Pay Band 17 -- $105,706 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $135,179. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
