Job Summary
Dalhousie Faculty of Graduate Studies (FGS) is the premier Maritime location for advanced study with over 3,500 graduate students in a research-intensive environment who can choose from over 95 Master’s degrees and more than 45 Doctoral programs. Students learn with top professors in their fields; experts who are recognized across Canada and the world. Reporting to the Manager of Graduate Student Systems, the Business Analyst is a key resource in conducting business process analysis and improvements for the enterprise systems used in the Faculty of Graduate Studies.
Key Responsibilities
  • Undertake business process analysis: gather and document user requirements, research appropriate solutions and define scope with the aim for improvement.
  • Develop supporting documentation (such as project timelines, technical/functional specifications, test plans, training documentation).
  • Manage projects; keep stakeholders informed and ensure target deadlines are met.
  • Advise Manager of Graduate Student Systems with the analysis of implications of system modifications with respect to current processes and systems.
  • Investigate new initiatives and best practices in the IT and Higher Education industries.
  • Act on behalf of the Manager of Graduate Student Systems when required, this includes representing the FGS at various meetings such as UPAC, Data Stewards and project team meetings.

The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.
Required Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree with computing, systems background or a related field, plus a minimum of three to five years’ in a similar role (or an equivalent combination or training and experience).
  • Demonstrated experience in business analysis and process improvement, preferably for Enterprise Resource Planning software.
  • Experience with project management in a technical / IT environment.
  • Highly motivated individual with analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Assets
  • Certification in Business Analytics.
  • Exposure or certification in Continuous Process Improvement (CSI) frameworks such as Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) or Lean Six Sigma.
  • Experience in a university environment.
