POSITION CONTEXT
The Business Intelligence (BI) Developer works on the design, development, and implementation of BI Solutions at McGill. The BI Developer is also responsible for the on-going support, maintenance and evolution of existing BI applications in collaboration with a team of IT functional analysts, DBA and architects.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: 
•    Participate in the design, development, implementation and delivery of optimized BI and Data Warehouse solutions using Microsoft suite, SQL Server and Oracle data bases
•    Perform regular maintenance on the existing applications, work with the technical team to identify, assess and correct issues.
•    Produce deliverables (including documentation) related to assigned project(s).
•    Assist in post-implementation support (occasionally after hours) and business inquires. 
•    Interact with Business users to assess requests, set priorities and manages expectations

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Education: Undergraduate Degree (Computer Science or related field)

Experience: Three (3) years’ related experience

Certification: Microsoft (BI solution) certification (an asset). Oracle DBA and performance tuning training (asset)

OTHER QUALIFYING SKILLS AND/OR ABILITIES
Demonstrates knowledge of the Business Intelligence (BI) principles, concepts and theories. 
•           Experience and strong expertise with Oracle SQL and PL/SQL
•    Experience with Oracle performance tuning (analyze query performance issues and modify the code to remedy performance problems) 
•    SQL query tuning on DWH environment (materialized views, analytical functions, cost-based optimizer, table partitioning, compression, bitmap indexes, etc)
•    Experience as Oracle database administrator (an asset).
•    Minimum 3 years of experience using the Microsoft BI stack : SQL Server (SSIS, SSAS, SSRS, MDS), SharePoint (Excel Services, Performance Point Services) and Office.
•           Solid experience in data warehouses, ETLs and cubes design and implementation.
•           Solid experience in analyzing query performance issues and modifying data structures or code to remedy performance problems.  
•           Experience implementing enterprise-scale BI front-end tools.
•           Experience in SQL Server 2012 Enterprise Edition (PowerView, DQS, BI Semantic Model).
•           Experience with Version Control Systems (TFS an asset).
•           Knowledge of Software Delivery Life Cycle approaches (Agile, ITIL are assets).
•           Experience with Web Services will be an asset.
•           Experience with Oracle databases, PL/SQL will be an asset.
•           Self-motivated and demonstrated ability to work on different projects concurrently.
•           Good team player with strong focus on delivering results to meet the business needs.
•           Knowledge of the higher education sector (an asset).
•           Knowledge of French and English. McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing.
