About us:

The Dalla Lana School of Public Health is a Faculty of the University of Toronto that originated as one of the Schools of Hygiene begun by the Rockefeller Foundation in 1927. The School, which plays a criticalrole in the COVID-19 pandemic response, went through a dramatic renaissance after the 2003 SARS crisis and it is now the largest public health school in Canada, with more than 850 faculty, 1,000 students, and research and training partnerships with institutions throughout Toronto and the world. With $64 million in research funding per year, the School contributes to improving population health and health policy and health systems through discoveries and innovation in data science and AI, maternal, child and reproductive health, climate change, implementation and improvement sciences, preventable disease through vaccines and prevention through wellness such as with diabetes, comparative health policy, sustainable and equitable health systems, global and Indigenous health, among many other areas. This past year, $10 million philanthropic dollars was raised for research, education and knowledge translation, and the over 7000 alumni were deeply engaged through events and networking opportunities.

Your opportunity:

The Institute for Pandemics (IfP) is the world’s first academic centre dedicated exclusively to preventing, preparing for, fighting and recovering from pandemics. It brings together transformative researchers and educators from across disciplines and around the world to address the complex, global public health challenges posed by pandemics. Our work centers around three pillars: ‘readiness’ to prevent and track evolving pandemics; ‘resilience’ of health systems and communities, and to improve public health policies and interventions; and equitable ‘recovery’ to reduce health disparities in pandemics, and to build back stronger and more fairly. Situated in Canada’s leading school of public health, IfP serves as a knowledge nexus informing public health responses, helping to strengthen systems, and equip future health leaders with a multi-faceted skillset to combat pandemics and epidemics.

As the Associate Director within the Institute for Pandemics, you will be a leader in strategic development opportunities for research and development. You will build partnerships, develop plans to support research collaborations, along with developing projects from end to end. Your superior analytical, project management, and strategy-building skills will support the Institute for Pandemics deliver on its vision and mission.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Identifying, developing and executing strategies for research and development collaborations and to maximize the economic and social impact of research partnerships.
  • Conducting detailed data analysis to inform management decision making
  • Developing project schedules including milestones, critical path, timelines, deliverables and reporting
  • Developing plans that support research collaborations and advance technologies
  • Planning and overseeing the implementation of an evaluation framework for programs and initiatives
  • Building and strengthening relationships with stakeholders and partners of strategic importance; Promoting partnerships with internal and external organizations.
  • Preparing project expense/revenuemodeling, forecasting cost-to-completion and financial tracking; Handling complex and/or sensitive information
  • Serving as a resource on specific issues to a group of specialists

Essential Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum six (6) years of related experience with a focus on strategy development and execution within a research environment
  • Demonstrated project management experience, from initiation to completion
  • Demonstrated experience in the planning and oversight of evaluation frameworks
  • Proficiency with data analysis and strong financial tracking (forecasting, revenue modeling)
  • Ability to build partnerships with internal and external organizations (i.e., industrial, governmental and finance sectors)
  • Aptitude for leadership, including the direction of duties and mentorship of staff
  • Exceptional oral communication skills, presentation andwriting skills
  • Strong team player who values collaboration and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Evidence of tact, political acuity, diplomacy and initiative, careful attention to detail and creativity
  • Strong project management skills, ability to multi-task successfully in a fast-paced and results oriented environment
  • Demonstrated commitment and understanding of confidentiality

USW Pay Band 17 -- $96,978 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $124,017. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
