Position Summary:

Reporting to the Director EDI, the Associate Director will take the lead in the development and implementation of strategic EDI initiatives.  This role will communicate on the Faculty’s commitment to EDI and promote EDI-related activities.  The incumbent will work closely with the Faculty’s senior academic, administrative, and student leaders to provide expert advice on EDI issues.  The incumbent will be the expert resource for faculty and staff on EDI projects and proposals.

The Associate Director will contribute to promoting awareness and understanding of EDI principles and values and ensuring that they form part of the Faculty’s teaching, learning and working environments.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Conceptualize and communicate the Desautels EDI strategy and initiatives; working closely with the EDI Director, Faculty working groups and affiliates.
  • Provide expertise to faculty, staff and students on EDI issues.
  • Develop staff recruiting, hiring and related HR strategies in collaboration with Desautels HR to attract and retain administrative employees from diverse backgrounds.  Establish standards in recruitment processes.
  • Work with the Director of EDI and Academic Affairs on academic faculty recruitment strategies.  Identify areas where there are opportunities to build and strengthen the EDI profile of the Faculty.
  • Create and build partnerships with the internal and external stakeholders, in support of the Faculty EDI agenda. Foster and manage relationships with other stakeholders within the Faculty and at the University level.
  • Develop, organize, and deliver training sessions for all Faculty groups on diversity and inclusion in collaboration with the University Equity Office, and with Teaching and Learning Services.
  • Lead the operation of the First Responders Program; establish guidelines in their response strategies. Organize and plan regular meetings.
  • Develop and execute an EDI communications strategic plan in conjunction with Desautels Marketing and Communications team.
  • Recruit, supervise, and manage the administrative staff.  Provide coaching and guidance and mentorship.
  • Manage the EDI budget, ensuring accurate financial reporting; and monitor the funding sources.
  • Track and report on EDI activities across the Faculty, as well as on compliance with directives such as recruitment training and guidelines.
  • Be responsible for creating and maintaining EDI-related policies and procedures in collaboration with the EDI Director, Deans, and University Equity Office.  Formulate recommendations as appropriate, for example to address Indigenous initiatives and anti-Black racism.
  • Represent the Faculty at internal and external meetings.


Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities
At least five (5) years of experience in an EDI role, preferably in a Canadian university setting.  Experience in project management, change management and strategic communication.  Proven ability to serve as an internal resource and to work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders.  A creative and dynamic thinker with an aptitude to work in a high performance and fast-paced environment.  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.  Preference will be given to candidates having experience working with Black, Indigenous, and racialized communities and other underrepresented groups on issues related to social justice, equity and inclusion.  Microsoft Office Suite skills, with the ability to produce professional reports and presentations. Fluency in English and French, spoken and written.

(MPEX Grade 06) $71,910.00 - $89,890.00 - $107,870.00
