Position Summary:
Reporting to the Managing Director, Development, Desautels Faculty of Management, the Associate Director manages the stewardship and alumni relations programs for the Faculty. The incumbent contributes to the design of, implements and manages a stewardship program that appropriately and consistently promotes interaction with and recognition of donors. Develops and manages systems and processes to provide enhanced tracking and delivery of donor stewardship. Participates in the management of volunteer networks that assist in the identification, cultivation and solicitation of prospects, such as the Faculty Advisory Board, and leads the management of the Desautels Global Experts program. Manages the organization of special events to enhance ongoing alumni relations.
Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of donor relations and stewardship strategic planning, vision and strategies for the Faculty. Develop and implement a comprehensive program for donor relations and stewardship in consultation with key stakeholders.
  • Manage the Faculty's stewardship activities and alumni and donor communications, (annual impact report, program reports, acknowledgements, letters, press releases, websites, solicitation pieces, newsletters, etc.) in close cooperation with the Marketing Communications team.
  • Collaborate with Development Officers and Prospect and Pipeline Management to align stewardship and cultivation programs and strategies.
  • Maintain effective collaboration and communication with Central University Advancement to ensure stewardship activities are aligned with the strategic plan and vision for stewardship at the University.
  • Analyze and review annual donor recognition strategies to ensure they are meeting the needs of the donor and adjust as necessary. Ensure that best practices are followed.
  • Participate in the management of volunteer networks that assist in the identification, cultivation and solicitation of prospects, such as the Faculty Advisory Board, and lead the management of the Desautels Global Experts program to ensure that it is integrated with the overall development strategy for Faculty.
  • Lead the management and organization of special events geared to primary, major and special gift prospects to enhance ongoing alumni relations programs.
  • Manage professional and support staff. Hire, train, coach and mentor staff. Set corporate and individual goals; provide routine evaluation of progress and regular feedback towards these goals.
  • Administer budget for stewardship and alumni relations for the Faculty.
  • Undertake special projects.


Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Donor Relations and Stewardship. A minimum of five years of fundraising and/or advancement experience preferred in an academic/higher education setting.  Must be a highly motivated, results-driven, self-starter who can lead teams, with an interpersonal style that fosters constructive and productive relationships with diverse constituencies. Must be client-focused, with excellent listening, negotiating, problem solving, planning, priority setting, and organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a team to achieve results and goals. Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to manage multiple projects within tightly prescribed timetables. Demonstrated ability to operate in a PC environment, using MS Office and client-server database software.

Knowledge of French and English. McGill University is an English-language university where day-to-day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing.
