The Opportunity
The School of Hospitality and Tourism (H&T) is hiring an Associate Dean, Culinary Programs. This position reports to the Dean and will play a key role in achieving the vision and mission of the school. The Associate Dean, Culinary Programs will collaborate extensively with the Associate Dean, Hospitality and Tourism Management Programs, with both in essence serving as the chief operating officers of the school. Working collaboratively with the leadership team, faculty, staff, SAIT community and industry, you will help us on our journey to become recognized as one of the world’s preeminent schools in hospitality, tourism and culinary arts education. The School of Hospitality and Tourism is actively exploring satellite campuses and international partnerships which may require travel for the successful candidate.

Our faculty and students operate The Highwood Kitchen + Bar, Tastemarket Canadian Kitchen; Culinary Campus International Market, 4Nines Diner and Destinations Travel Centre. We also create and execute several events, and work hand-in-hand with industry to provide our students with highly relevant experience such as practicums, internships, capstones and class project work.

The Role
    • Planning, Strategy and School Management (25%)
    • Collaborate with the leadership team and other stakeholders as appropriate to help create and drive school strategy.
    • Support the various operational requirements related to school management (i.e. budgets; reporting; enrollment management; data analysis; committee membership; student issues; executing SAIT policy; etc).

    • Program Excellence and Innovation (25%)
    • Serve as a co-champion, mentor and support for Academic Chairs in key areas of program leadership, particularly relating to quality/continuous improvement, new program development, data analysis and advancing our practice of learning.  
    • Seek out best practice and perspective from other SAIT schools, PSI’s and industry to inspire our strategic and tactical direction.
    • Ensure alignment between the academic portfolio, outlet operations and supply chain, particularly as it relates to effective COGS management

    • Student Experience (25%)
    • Taking a holistic view to student experience within the school, champion and support opportunities to maximize student experience through all controllable touchpoints.
    • Collaborate with SAIT stakeholders to catalyze and support continual improvement in touchpoints beyond our direct control.

    • Community Engagement (Internal and External Stakeholders) (25%)
    • Provide leadership, mentorship and support to achieve our strategic goals related to industry, academia and community engagement.
    • Serve as a key contributor to the Academic Operations Group (AOG), championing innovation, process improvement and operational excellence across the academic portfolio and in collaboration with internal SAIT stakeholders.
    • Lead various institutional councils and committees
    • Embrace and champion storytelling in everything we do.

Qualifications & Experience
    • Minimum
    • Bachelor’s degree 
    • Red Seal Designation
    • 5+ years of relevant leadership experience
    • 10+ years of relevant experience in the culinary space 
    • Combination of relevant work experience and education may be considered

    • Ideal
    • Master’s degree 
    • Leadership experience in a post-secondary environment
    • Experience in teaching and curriculum development

Salary Range: $130,000 - $150,000
Hours Per Week: 37.5
