Department/Faculty Summary

The mission of the Department of Medical Microbiology & Immunology is to provide an enriched environment for research, education and training in the field of infection and immunity that links molecular mechanisms to disease, treatment and prevention.

Position Summary

The Department of Medical Microbiology & Immunology, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry at the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada, invites applications for a tenure track position at the assistant professor level. We are seeking outstanding candidates with a strong track record in synthetic virology with preferred expertise in the field of poxviruses and working experience under biosafety level 3 conditions. Additional experience in grant writing and training of graduate students would be beneficial. The successful candidate will be appointed as a faculty member in the Department of Medical Microbiology & Immunology, contingent on ongoing funding.

Duties

The successful candidate will conduct innovative independent research to attract external funding and outstanding research trainees, and will contribute to the Department’s undergraduate and graduate programs, including teaching and assisting with administration. The candidate would be expected to be a full member of the Li Ka Shing Institute of Virology. The privilege of membership includes additional opportunities for funding.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must have a PhD, postdoctoral experience and a proven record of quality research achievements.

Preferred Qualifications

Expertise in the field of poxviruses is preferred.
