Description:

The Department of Speech-Language Pathology, in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto, invites applications for a full-time continuing teaching stream appointment in the area of clinical education. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream and will commence on July 1, 2024, or shortly thereafter.


The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for the clinical education of Year 1 students in the MHSc curriculum by teaching the introductory clinical principles academic course and coordinating and teaching two clinical placement courses.  Additional administrative duties, including committee memberships, may be assigned by the Chair of the Department. 

We seek candidates whose teaching interests complement and enhance our existing departmental strengths. Candidates must have at least a Professional Masters degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited Canadian program. Candidates must have teaching experience in a degree-granting program, including lecture preparation and delivery, curriculum development, and development of online material/lectures. Additionally, candidates must possess a demonstrated commitment to excellent pedagogical inquiry and a demonstrated interest in teaching-related scholarly activities.

Candidates must have knowledge of and extensive experience in paediatric assessment and intervention (i.e., children birth-18 years), a minimum of five years experience in co-ordinating clinical placements for speech-language pathology (SLP) students, demonstrated evidence of excellence as a clinical educator for students in clinical placements, knowledge of the service delivery organization in Ontario, outstanding interpersonal skills, demonstrated ability to network and build relationships with the clinical community, excellent teaching skills and exemplary time management skills. Knowledge of and experience in using placement management software, such as InPlace, is considered an asset. Registration or being eligible to register as a speech-language pathologist with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO) is required. In addition, the applicant must have: 1) an extensive understanding of competency-based education, including knowledge of the National Speech-Language Pathology Competency Profile (2018) published by The Canadian Alliance of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology Regulators, 2) experience with the use of simulation in clinical education, and 3) contributions to the profession at a provincial and national level.

Evidence of excellence in teaching will be provided through teaching accomplishments and awards, the teaching dossier, including a detailed teaching statement, sample course syllabi, and teaching evaluations submitted as part of the application. Candidates should demonstrate their ability to integrate clinical and scientific knowledge in their teaching design and delivery.
