The Department of Mechanical & Industrial Engineering in the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time teaching stream position in the area of Data Science. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2024.

Candidates must have a graduate degree (at least a master’s degree is required) in engineering, computer science, statistics, data science, or a related field at the time of appointment; a PhD is preferred. We seek candidates whose teaching interests complement and enhance our existing departmental strengths . The successful candidate will teach introductory and advanced courses in data science, machine learning, deep learning, cloud data services, and related areas, to graduate and undergraduate students from across the Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering. It is preferred that candidates have an undergraduate degree in engineering and be registered, or eligible for registration as, a Professional Engineer.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated excellence in teaching and pedagogical inquiry, including in the development and delivery of undergraduate and graduate courses, curriculum development, and supervision of student projects. This will be demonstrated by strong communication skills evident throughout the application process; a teaching dossier that includes a compelling statement of teaching highlighting areas of interest, awards, accomplishments and teaching philosophy; sample course syllabi and materials; teaching evaluations; and strong letters of reference from referees of high standing that endorse excellent teaching and a commitment to excellent pedagogical practices and teaching innovation.
