Position Description

The Faculty of Kinesiology at the University of Calgary invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor (Teaching) position in the area of human anatomy. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2024, or a mutually agreeable date.

The successful candidate will teach and develop a range of undergraduate courses in the area of human anatomy and human physiology. This position carries a normal teaching load of six courses per year, including but not limited to KNES 259 (Human Anatomy and Physiology I), KNES 260 (Human Anatomy and Physiology II), and KNES 460 (Laboratory Practicum: Anatomy). The development of an advanced anatomy course at the undergraduate level is anticipated as part of this position. Course descriptions are available here .

Applicants must have:

  • Earned a PhD in a relevant field, such as kinesiology, anatomy, exercise science, movement science
  • Evidence of successful teaching in human anatomy at the post-secondary level
  • First-hand experience conducting and teaching dissection and prosection
  • Track-record of using active and experiential teaching approaches in the classroom, including working with human tissue materials and anatomical models
  • Demonstrated support of student learning inside and outside of the classroom 
  • Familiarity with a range of teaching and learning pedagogies; engagement in the scholarship of teaching and learning as related to anatomy, kinesiology, or a related field
  • Experience using on-line teaching methods including synchronous and asynchronous teaching as well as demonstrating the ability to integrate technology into lecture and laboratory sessions
  • Experience with service at the post-secondary level, such as course coordination, lab supervision, undergraduate research, new course development, and committee work
