Position Description

Assistant Professor (Teaching), Clinical Social Work Practice, Faculty of Social Work

The Faculty of Social Work invites applications for a limited-term 0.5 FTE academic position (2 years) at the rank of Assistant Professor (Teaching), with a specialization in Clinical Social Work Practice.  This position can be based at our Lethbridge, Calgary or Edmonton campus, with an anticipated start date of May 1, 2024.


The position entails 80% teaching and 20% service.  The teaching component will include teaching BSW, MSW and graduate certificate courses, with a particular emphasis on clinical social work courses.  Evidence of excellence in teaching social work at the university level in face-to-face, blended and online contexts at undergraduate and graduate levels is required, along with a strong clinical social work practice background. The service component includes service at the faculty, university and professional levels.


Scholarship-related duties of an Assistant Professor (Teaching) will normally include, but not go beyond, the scholarship required to maintain currency in pedagogy and content of the discipline.

Requirements:

A master’s degree in social work (Clinical Practice preferred), eligibility to register with the Alberta College of Social Workers and minimum of five years of full-time clinical social work practice experience are required. Preference is for applicants who also hold, or are near completion of, a PhD in social work. Preference is for those on the ACSW Clinical Registry. Experience as a field instructor (supervising practicum students) or teaching field education courses is a strong asset, as there will be opportunities to teach clinical practicum and integrative seminar courses.  A commitment to supporting and promoting Indigenous models of practice and ways of knowing; and to equity, diversity, inclusion and social justice is required. The ability to integrate equity, diversity and inclusion into teaching social work practice is required. Strong communication, collaboration, organizational and computer skills are required.
