The Department of Political Science invites applications from qualified candidates for a tenure-track appointment specializing in the Politics of Development in the Global South with a Focus on Africa.

The position is designed to approach the politics of development, especially in the context of Africa, from a range of perspectives, which may include: alternatives to Western conceptualizations of development; post-colonial theories; race, ethnicity, and indigeneity; as well as the position of the Global South in broader economic and political structures.

The Department of Political Science at Carleton University is one of the largest in Canada. It offers programs of study at the undergraduate, master’s and doctoral levels. Our faculty teach and research in all fields of the discipline.

We are part of the Faculty of Public Affairs, which brings together twelve departments and schools focused on preparing students to apply scholarly knowledge to the practical world. These include interdisciplinary units such as the Institute of African Studies and the Institute of Political Economy, both of which have strong programmatic links to the Department of Political Science.

Candidates must hold a PhD in Political Science or related discipline(s), or be very near to completion. They must have a demonstrated record of excellence in research and publishing, and demonstrate potential for outstanding future research output. They must demonstrate teaching excellence and dedication to pedagogical development. They must show a commitment to advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion in Political Science.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach introductory and advanced courses on the comparative politics of the Global South, the politics of development, and African politics.
