Housed in the Riddell Library and Learning Centre, the University Library fosters intellectual curiosity and exploration. The Library’s information literacy program is embedded across the disciplines and is designed to help students find, evaluate, create and share information, ethically and skillfully.  Library faculty work collaboratively to build collections, support research and scholarship, and provide support to students for their information needs. The Library includes the Archives and Special Collections and a number of technology-enriched teaching and learning spaces, including information literacy classrooms, a Maker Studio, audio production rooms, and a range of visualization, simulation, and immersive spaces. The Library team comprises approximately 60 FTE employees, including 15 FTE faculty. The University Library invites applicants for a 10-month limited term faculty position,  from August 15, 2024 - June 15, 2025.

The candidate will be engaged in a range of teaching and teaching-related activities, including information literacy instruction, collections and reference work, as well as in the planning, development and delivery of library initiatives that support the teaching, learning, and scholarly work of MRU students, staff, faculty, and community. Engagement and relationship-building with students, staff, and faculty across the library and MRU campus is a significant component of this work.


 
Responsibilities
  • Participate in the development and delivery of the departmental information literacy program, and contribute to collaborative teaching, scholarly communications, collection development and assessment activities.
  • Teach information literacy in a variety of disciplines which may include General Education, Policy Studies, Political Science, Economics, Earth and Environmental Science.
  • Assess the teaching, learning and research needs of Mount Royal students and instructors to inform library collection development. Engage in collection assessment and development in assigned areas such as Policy Studies, Political Science, Economics, Earth and Environmental Science. 
  • Provide one-to-one teaching, reference and research consultation, and other library support, to students, faculty, staff, and community members. 
  • Engage in other project work as assigned.

Qualifications and Competencies
  • A Master of Library/Information Science degree from an ALA-accredited program or equivalent  is
  • required. 
  • Recent experience teaching information literacy in an academic or similar setting, and a demonstrated ability to teach across a variety of academic disciplines. 
  • Recent experience developing effective teaching and learning materials.
  • Strong knowledge of contemporary information literacy theory and pedagogy.
  • Demonstrated understanding of collection development practices within an academic setting.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment, commitment to finding cooperative solutions, and flexibility in changing circumstances.
  • A strong service orientation, excellent communication skills, and the ability to engage with educators, learners, and researchers from a wide variety of disciplines.

Terms of employment, including salary and salary grid placement for faculty positions are outlined in the Collective Agreement between the Mount Royal Faculty Association and the Board of Governors of Mount Royal University. The salary ranges for this position for the 2023/24 academic year are:

Salary: Assistant Professor: $73,743  to $112,464
