The Department of Health Sciences invites applications from qualified candidates for a preliminary appointment (tenure-track) in Health Sciences at the rank of Assistant Professor. The position is expected to start on July 1, 2024; however, the start date is negotiable.

We are looking for outstanding applicants who currently have, or have the capacity to develop, an independent and innovative research program in the broad areas of Clinical Trials and Regulatory Affairs. Ideal candidates are experts in key trial methodologies (e.g. study designs, patient engagement, trial ethics, data management and analysis, pharmacovigilance) and their appropriate areas of clinical trials research are connected to: biomarkers, drug safety and mechanism of action, regulations, or quality of life. The Department has been developing a Master of Science (MSc) in Clinical Trials and Regulatory Affairs program to meet pressing needs in the healthcare research community, government and industry. The successful applicant will play a prominent role in the delivery of this program through teaching courses, as well as help mature and shape the program, thus experience in higher education programming and/or program delivery is an asset. In addition, the candidate is expected to develop and coordinate student placements and practicums.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in health-related or clinical trials-related fields, M.D., or equivalent. The successful candidate must show proven ability or significant potential to develop an independent research program that includes clinical trials and will be expected to maintain their research program by obtaining external competitive grants. They will also be expected to teach within their area(s) of specialization and the MSc program (examples include HLTH 5812, HLTH 5816, HTLH 5819) and in broader health-related fields. The successful applicant will demonstrate excellent teaching, mentoring, and communication skills. Administrative experience is an asset, as the candidate will be required to participate in the Department’s administrative work.

As part of an interdisciplinary department, the successful candidate’s research interests are expected to dovetail with the existing Faculty including in lifecycle health, at-risk population health, chronic diseases, and infection and immunity. Therefore, applicants with the ability to forge collaborations with members of the Department (some of whom are already engaged in clinical research) and interdisciplinary-oriented Faculty across the university and allied agencies will be given preference. The Department is building core strengths in the following four research themes: 1) Health Equity and Promotion, 2) Health Systems and Policy, 3) Chronic Conditions, Prevention, and Treatment, and 4) Lifecycle Approach to Health.
