Position Details
The Faculty of Arts and Science, University of Lethbridge, invites applications from qualified candidates for the position of tenure-track Assistant Professor of Engineering, with duties to begin January 1, 2024. Earlier start dates could be arranged to facilitate course and research preparation. The starting salary will be in the range of $78,000-$92,000 per year, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
It is strongly preferred that the successful candidate be registered as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng. ) with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) on the employment start date. Candidates who are immediately eligible to register as a P. Eng. with APEGA (i.e., education and experience components satisfied) will be considered. Applicants must also hold a Ph.D. in a field related to their P. Eng. designation. The successful candidate will provide evidence of the ability to establish an externally-funded research program.
In addition to the Pre-professional Engineering transfer program , the University of Lethbridge has approved engineering courses in areas including: control systems, irrigation/water/agriculture systems, sustainability, manufacturing, modeling and design, fluid mechanics, materials, digital electronics, computer programming, digital networks, mechatronics, robotics, bioengineering, manufacturing, and big data. The successful candidate will have experience and research interest that falls within these fields.
We are seeking a Professional Engineer with interest and experience in teaching engineering topics including engineering statics, engineering dynamics, the engineering profession, and engineering design. Candidate responsibilities will also include service to the engineering transfer program and the maintenance and advancement of an independent program of research that includes graduate student supervision. We are seeking a candidate with the capability to engage and inspire students in their academic work, and who will show initiative in contributing to the host department’s programs and curriculum development.
Our Team:
The Pre-professional Engineering Transfer Program is housed by the Department of Physics and Astronomy within the Faculty of Arts and Science. The department is responsible for undergraduate programs in Physics (B.Sc.), and offers thesis-based M.Sc. and Ph.D. graduate programs .
There are also several other departments within the Faculty of Arts and Science with specialty related to the engineering discipline (e.g., Biological Sciences, Chemistry & Biochemistry, Geography & Environment, Kinesiology & Physical Education, Mathematics & Computer Science and Neuroscience). Expertise in engineering fields related to agriculture would be an asset. The successful candidate will become a member of a department closely linked with their field of specialty. The relevant departments within the Faculty of Arts and Science have established graduate programs and a thriving undergraduate student culture, encouraged through faculty involvement.
