The Department of Geography & Planning in the Faculty of Arts & Science at the University of Toronto (St. George campus) invites applications for a 3-year full-time contractually limited term appointment (CLTA) at the rank of Assistant Professor in Geographic Data Science with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2024.

Candidates must have earned a PhD degree in geography (or a related area) with a research focus in Geographic Data Science by the time of appointment, or shortly thereafter, with a demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching. We welcome applications from candidates with an interest in the applications of Geographic Data Science in fields such as transportation, planning, or sustainability. We encourage applicants who take an equity or justice-based approach to apply. We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests complement and enhance our existing departmental strengths . The successful candidate will be expected to pursue innovative and independent research, and to establish an outstanding, competitive, and externally funded research program. The successful candidate will also be expected to provide service within the University and to broader academic and professional communities.

Candidates must provide evidence of research excellence which can be demonstrated by a record of publications in top-ranked and field relevant journals or forthcoming publications meeting high international standards, the submitted research statement, presentations at significant conferences, awards and accolades, and strong endorsements from referees.

Evidence of excellence in teaching will be provided through teaching accomplishments, the teaching dossier (with required materials outlined below) submitted as part of the application, as well as strong letters of reference.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
