Position Description:

The School of Human Nutrition of McGill University’s Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences invites applications for a tenure track position at the level of Assistant Professor – Clinician Scientist in Medical Nutrition Therapy.

The School of Human Nutrition (www.mcgill.ca/nutrition ) is a research-intensive unit with ongoing activities in our on-site research facilities; including the School’s mass spectrometry and molecular nutrition laboratory, metabolic flux core and modernized cell culture facility, and Mary Emily Clinical Nutrition Research Unit, as well as the Centre for Indigenous Peoples' Nutrition and Environment, and the Margaret A. Gilliam Institute for Global Food Security. Other McGill-affiliated research and health centres (www.mcgill.ca/research/about/partners ) include McGill University Health Centre teaching hospitals and McGill University Genome Quebec Innovation Centre.

Job Duties:

The research program will incorporate emerging paradigms for improving nutritional status and managing diseases using methodologies spanning nutritional status assessment, in vivo metabolic phenotyping (including modern quantitative surveillance techniques) and treatment strategies to address high priority research areas that include, but are not limited to cancer, surgery (including bariatric), gastro-intestinal and inflammatory diseases and other metabolic diseases. Emphasis on nutrition as a key part of medical therapies with programs like Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) is an asset. The candidate will be expected to teach courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels. Our senior advanced Clinical Nutrition course, which is required for all students in our graduate and undergraduate dietetics credentialing programs, includes dysphagia and other feeding problems, gastrointestinal disorders, surgery as well as enteral and parenteral nutrition support. The Advanced Research Methods course includes observational and experimental clinical nutrition research. The successful Candidate is expected to establish and/or maintain an externally-funded research program, and develop research collaborations in a multi-disciplinary, multi-sectorial environment at the national and international level. The successful applicant is also expected to participate in all aspects of McGill’s academic mission (i.e. research, teaching, graduate student supervision, mentorship, and involvement in academic and administrative committees).

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in nutrition or related area, and be a registered dietitian (R.D. or P.Dt.) with membership in, or eligibility for membership in Dietitians of Canada and l’Ordre des diététistes nutritionnistes du Québec. Experience in clinical dietetics practice and clinical nutrition teaching, as well as proficiency in both French and English are required. In-depth knowledge of the Quebec healthcare milieu is an asset. A strong record of publication in high-quality scholarly journals is required with a demonstrated record of research excellence in implementing and leading clinical trials.Preference given for candidates with relevant clinical experience in a multidisciplinary environment, Certified Nutrition Support Clinician credential, post-doctoral research training, as well as experience teaching clinical nutrition.
