Position Description

The McGill University Department of Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, invites applications for a full-time Clinician-Scientist position as a member of the Contract Academic Staff (Clinical) at the rank of Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will be appointed to clinical practice at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) within the Division of Infectious Diseases. If applicable, the successful candidate will also be appointed to the Division of Medical Microbiology in the Department of Clinical Laboratory Medicine. This is a Contract Academic Staff position and does not confer eligibility for tenure.
The Department of Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences is a leader in academic medicine. The McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) is one of McGill’s major teaching hospitals affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Canada’s internationally renowned McGill University, located in the vibrant and multicultural city of Montreal, in the province of Quebec. 
The Division of Infectious Diseases at the MUHC comprises a mix of medical doctors and scientists with a strong research focus—which range from molecules, to patients, and populations. The Division also provides excellent service across the MUHC hospital sites and contributes to teaching at the undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate levels, as well as supporting continuing medical education.

Job Duties

As a Clinician-Scientist, the candidate will be expected to spend 50% of their time dedicated to research, and develop and maintain an independent and productive research program. The research program is expected to attract external peer reviewed funding (e.g., Canadian Institutes of Health Research and the Fonds de Recherche Québec—Santé (FRQS). Internal start-up funding may be available on a competitive basis to a suitable candidate.
The successful candidate will be expected to provide clinical service at the three MUHC hospitals. If trained in Medical Microbiology, the candidate will also be expected to provide supervision, consultative expertise, and leadership in the microbiology laboratory of the MUHC.
The successful candidate’s major non-clinical focus will include both didactic and clinical teaching. The successful candidate will also be expected to be actively involved in all aspects of McGill’s academic mission (i.e., research, teaching, supervision of students and residents, and involvement in academic and administrative committees).

Qualifications and Education Requirements

Candidates must:

• Hold an MD degree and have completed specialty training in Infectious Diseases or Infectious Diseases and Medical Microbiology;

• Be certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent) and be eligible for licensure in the province of Quebec;

• Be certified by the Collège des médecins du Québec;

• Have at least two additional years of research training;

• Possess strong clinical, interpersonal, and leadership skills;

• Bilingual language skills (French and English) are preferred, or a commitment to acquire the necessary language skills to practice medicine in Quebec. Candidates should be able to interact in English and in French with patients, families and health care professionals.
