The Department of Psychiatry at McGill University and the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) are currently inviting applications for a full-time position as a member of the Contract Academic Staff at the rank of Assistant Professor (Clinical). This will be a three-year, renewable appointment and does not confer eligibility for tenure.

The successful candidate will have a broad range of clinical abilities and aptitudes for working in interdisciplinary teams within the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (CAP) program. The applicant will also have a demonstrated experience in education and/or an active research dossier. The candidate will be appointed to clinical practice at the Montreal Children’s Hospital (MCH).

The successful candidate will have a broad range of clinical abilities and aptitudes for working in interdisciplinary teams in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.  They will be expected to be involved in teaching, and carry out an active research program alongside their clinical practice at the Montreal Children’s Hospital.

The Montreal Children’s Hospital (MCH), part of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC), is a world leader in specialized mental health care for children and adolescent.  More specifically, the MCH ensures access to comprehensive, high-quality and timely services to the population served by the institution in collaboration with all professionals in the integrated health and social services network.  Where appropriate, the MCH undertakes along with McGill University teaching, research and assessments of technologies and medical interventions in the department.  The MCH provides quality care to all patients who are admitted or treated in all services of the CAP department and ensures the added value and the innovation of the services offered.

Job Duties

The successful candidate will provide excellent clinical teaching and supervision to residents and medical students, participate in hospital and administrative activities, and pursue scholarly activities. The candidate will carry out clinical activities mainly in a Child and Adolescent Consultation Liaison setting as well as some dedicated time in an inpatient unit of hospitalization, outpatient service and emergency room (including Le Spot-A-Crisis intervention clinic). Call duty will be performed at the Montreal Children’s Hospital.

Qualifications and Education requirements

  • Must hold an MD and hold or be eligible for licensure as a psychiatrist in the province of Quebec;
  • Must hold a subspecialty degree in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry;
  • Advanced capacity to engage in all aspects of a university affiliated psychiatry department (clinical, education and/or research);
  • Bilingual language competencies (French and English).
