The Department of Chemistry at Carleton University is seeking an outstanding new investigator for a preliminary full-time tenure-track faculty position at the rank of assistant professor beginning July 1, 2023.

Qualified applicants are expected to have exceptional records of demonstrated success in chemistry or a related field that complements existing Departmental strengths and fits within the broadly defined theme of “molecules and materials for sustainability”, as detailed in the Department’s strategic plan: https://carleton.ca/chemistry/department-of-chemistry-strategic-plan-2020-2025

Additionally, preference will be given to candidates with a background in inorganic chemistry and science communication.

Researchers taking interdisciplinary, collaborative, and community-oriented approaches are especially encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a sustained, externally funded research program and establish productive collaborations within the Department and beyond. The successful candidate must be able to teach core courses in inorganic chemistry, and strengths in teaching sustainable chemistry, and/or scientific communication are an asset.

About the Academic Unit

The Department of Chemistry, housed within the Faculty of Science, offers high-quality teaching and comprehensive research programs. We provide a holistic experiential chemistry education with distinctive programming in food science, nanoscience, and toxicology. Qualifications

The successful candidate will have a Ph.D., postdoctoral experience, demonstrated research excellence and a commitment to teaching and mentoring undergraduate and graduate-level students. The successful candidate must show proven ability or significant potential to develop an independent research program and will be expected to maintain their research program by obtaining external competitive grants (e.g. Tri-council funding). The successful applicant will demonstrate excellent teaching and communication skills. Administrative experience will be an asset, as the candidates will be required to participate in the administrative work of the Department.

As part of an interdisciplinary department, the successful candidate’s research interests are expected to dovetail with that of the existing faculty members. Applicants with the ability to forge collaborations with members of the Department and interdisciplinary-oriented faculty across the University, as well as with allied agencies, will be given preference.
