Position Description:
The Department of Pediatrics at McGill University invites applicants for a full-time position as a member of the Contract Academic Staff as an academic clinician at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor (Clinical). The successful candidate will be based at the Montreal Children’s Hospital (MCH) of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC).  This position is a contract faculty position and does not confer tenure eligibility. The rank will be determined according to the chosen candidate’s qualifications and experience. This position will be available July 1, 2024.
The Department of Pediatrics is a leader in academic medicine, and our educational and research missions support excellent and innovative clinical programs and research across our teaching hospitals.   The Montreal Children’s Hospital of the McGill University Health Centre is one of McGill’s major teaching hospitals affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Canada’s internationally renowned McGill University, located in the vibrant and multicultural city of Montreal, in the province of Quebec. All pediatric medical and surgical subspecialties are represented at the MCH.
The Division of Hematology-Oncology seeks an individual with experience and an active interest in pediatric non-central nervous system solid tumors.  In addition to providing clinical care, it is anticipated the successful candidate will promote clinical research in this field. The division is currently staffed with nine Hematologists-Oncologists who offer a full-range of services and on average sees 90-100 new cancer diagnoses per year. In addition to oncology, the staff has expertise and experience in neuro-oncology, hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, hemostasis, thrombosis,
hemoglobinopathies, long term follow-up, and cancer genetics. The hematologists-oncologists work closely with all surgical services and pediatric pathologists with expertise in molecular pathology. Orthopedic surgery and radiation-oncology are on-site providing easy access to and communication with highly experienced personnel within these disciplines. There is a strong collaboration with the three other pediatric oncology centres in Quebec allowing the development of clinical and translational research projects and sharing clinical expertise. The division has a Royal College of Canada accredited fellowship program and actively participates in teaching medical students and residents from many specialties.
Job Duties:

The successful candidate will be an active physician member of the Division of Hematology-Oncology at the Montreal Children’s Hospital, MUHC, with clinical academic duties in Hematology-Oncology.  The successful candidate will share on-call duties, in-patient service, outpatient clinic duties, teaching, and divisional administrative responsibilities with other members of the division.
As part of the academic mission within our Department, members are expected to provide clinical teaching and supervision to undergraduate medical students, residents and fellows, and to pursue scholarly activities in hematology/oncology. In addition, members are expected to contribute to academic rounds and administrative committees, as well as being involved in a variety of teaching, research and advocacy efforts within the hospital setting and beyond.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • hold an MD degree or equivalent;
  • have postgraduate clinical training in pediatrics, and have completed specialty training in Pediatric Hematology-Oncology with certification by the Collège des médecins du Québec or Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent);
  • hold or be eligible for licensure to practice medicine from the Collège des médecins du Québec;
  • be fluent in English. French language skills are also necessary but can be acquired over time.
