The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering invites applications from qualified candidates fora preliminary, tenure track appointment in Indoor Air Quality at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor beginning July 1, 2023.

The candidate is expected to have technical capacities to engage in research supporting the engineering, health, and scientific aspects of building indoor air quality (IAQ). Areas may include measurement and modelling of IAQ; airborne disease transmission; design and operation of novel techniques and natural and mechanical ventilation building systems to improve IAQ; interactions between building materials, occupants, and IAQ; impact of outdoor air pollution on IAQ; and air cleaning, filtration, and other mitigation technologies. Experience collaborating with related disciplines, e.g., air pollution, fire safety, existing and heritage buildings is a major asset.

About the Academic Unit:

The Department offers dynamic, innovative, and cross‐disciplinary undergraduate and graduate programs in Civil Engineering and Environmental Engineering, and Architectural Conservation and Sustainability Engineering/Building Engineering. The Department has diverse expertise over a wide range of experimental, numerical, and analytical research areas in building performance, geotechnical, environmental, fire safety, structural and transportation engineering. A new set of unique graduate programs are offered in Building Engineering to provide further strength and opportunities. The research enterprise in the department also includes a Jarislowsky Chair in Water and Global Health.

Qualifications:

Candidates must have a Ph.D. or be in the final stages of obtaining their Ph.D. in civil, mechanical, building, architectural, or environmental engineering or a related engineering discipline. The successful candidate must have a demonstrated record of or commitment to research excellence through high quality publications; have the strong ability to develop an externally funded, high quality research program; be committed to effective and excellence in teaching; and contribute to the academic life of the Department. Synergy to establish collaborative research links with existing members of the Department and across the University is highly desirable.

Membership in a Canadian professional engineering association is required at the time of appointment or within five (5) years of appointment.
