Your opportunity:

Under the direction of the Director, Intercollegiate and High Performance Sport and Director, Sport and Rec, the incumbent provides professional and dynamic leadership to the Faculty’s Athletics program with an emphasis in the areas of intercollegiate sport and FKPE sport clubs. Key duties include the direct management of 18 intercollegiate programs, and 10 FKPE club programs; supervision of a large staff primarily composed of part time coaches, USW casuals, student leaders and contracted volunteers; creating and managing a large scheduling portfolio across two programs and six facilities, the financial management of two large programs including two FKPE budget and 23 Restricted Spending Plan budgets; the implementation of event management protocols for two large programs; and the human resource management of 80+ staff including annual contracts, payroll processes, training and orientation.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Create all practice and competition schedules across 12 facilities for 28 programs in intercollegiate and FKPE clubs
  • In collaboration with the Manager of Intercollegiate Sport, manage the Ontario University Sport (OUA) and U Sports requirements primarily for the Blue and White Division of the intercollegiate program
  • Advocating on behalf of students with internal and external contacts/agencies
  • Design a promotion plan for athlete recruitment for all programs working with departmental colleagues, assist in the coordination of student athlete awards and recognition programs
  • Manageall travel requirements within IC and club travel policies – includes type of transportation within budget allocation, accommodation, travel rosters, coaches expenses; meals; therapy, reimbursements of expenses, parking, mileage, officials travel
  • Recruit, hire, orient and train of 80+ USW casuals, contracted volunteers, coaches, instructors and work study students
  • As a member of the Events Management team for intercollegiate games and events, attends games and/or events to ensure staffperforms their assigned duties and to solve any problems that may arise pre, during, or post event, based on an assigned portfolio
  • Create Game/Event Day action plans for all games and events within the Blue and White division of the IC program, the club program and the tri campus intramural program

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in sport management, physical education or kinesiology or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum four years in sport management preferably in a university athletic setting
  • Experience in managing budgets and supervising staff
  • Demonstrated event management and sport scheduling experience
  • Experience in University Sport across a continuum of programming – intramurals, clubs, varsity, high performance.
  • Demonstrated oral and written skills
  • Demonstrated conflict resolution skills
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite


Assets (Nonessential):

  • Experience in web site management and FUSION registration and facility scheduling system is an asset.

Pay Scale Group & Hiring Zone:
USW Pay Band 13 -- $83,150 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $106,336. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
