Duties and Responsibilities:
The Assistant Director of Industry and Partnership Services (IPS) plays a crucial role in supporting the Director in the oversight of the organization's contract management processes and innovation initiatives. This position requires a blend of strategic thinking, operational excellence, and collaborative skills to drive forward the organization’s commercialization initiatives. The Assistant Director is a key contact for external partner organizations. Responsible for providing support to the Director, IPS, in the delivery of partnership support services with a focus on licensing, commercialization, and partner development.
Qualifications:
The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:
• Solid understanding of intellectual property protection, portfolio management and commercialization
• Demonstrated success in research and technology proposal development for government and/or industry sponsors
• Experience in facilitating research partnerships, including contract negotiation and review
• Experience in program management and/or managing contract research projects
• Experience in promoting research expertise, technology and innovation outcomes
• Knowledge of operational management and leadership concepts practices including program/service delivery models, policy development, planning, budgeting, performance measurement management
• Knowledge of office as well as the broader university academic units, departments, and divisions
• Industrial work experience, preferably in a commercialization or financial capacity, is an asset
• Knowledge of relevant operational metrics (e.g., Annual Commercialization Plan and reporting), including any any external funding
• Knowledge of office productivity software and databases, internet browsers and search engines, discipline-specific software, enterprise software, and technology devices
Education and Experience:
The above is normally acquired through the completion of:
• Bachelor’s degree. Master's degree will be preferred
• Minimum of Seven years of previous experience in a commercialization or innovation environment

Health and Safety Requirements
This position is regularly required to work on campus in person. In the event of a public health emergency or a health and safety issue, it is possible that you may be required to work temporarily remotely due to public health orders, directives and/or health and safety requirements. If this happens, you will work with your direct manager to set up a remote work environment including discussing appropriate technology and requirements. You are required to follow all University policies and directives, including to set up a safe and confidential workspace in a remote location and ensure all Carleton property (intellectual and other) is safeguarded. If required to work remotely, you will be notified by your manager when working full time physically onsite will resume.
