The Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences is consistently ranked among the top three schools in Canada, and top 50 globally and has been the only pharmacy school in Alberta since 1914. Position summary

Situated on Treaty 6 territory, the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences invites applications for an Assistant Clinical Professor (Academic Teaching Staff), to provide instruction and course development, with an emphasis on experiential education, to students enrolled in the PharmD and PharmD for Practicing Pharmacists programs.

A Lecturer under the Academic Teaching Staff Agreement shall be a scholar who

  • has teaching and/or teaching-related responsibilities as their primary academic responsibility, such teaching shall involve University credit courses;
  • actively participates in the planning, delivery and evaluation of courses specified in a manner consistent with the curriculum and operational guidelines;
  • shall demonstrate scholarship and remain current and competent in the discipline or profession;
  • shall contribute to service and provide evidence of contributing to the University, Faculty and/or the pharmacy profession.

Duties

Coordination and teaching of courses

  • Provides instruction and other teaching related responsibilities in credit courses, as assigned
  • Provides student advising regarding experiential courses (in conjunction with the Student Services team and Experiential Coordinator)
  • Student support during experiential placements as required

Training and development of preceptors, and leads the development and implementation of new orientation and training programs

  • Provides ongoing support and mentorship to preceptors and sites through in-person meetings, telecommunications, and site visits.  Some travel may be required from time to time.
  • Identifies and implements novel learning opportunities for students 

Recruiting preceptors and developing practice sites

  • Works with Director and experiential team to identify and recruit new preceptors to meet preceptor/site criteria and/or further develop existing sites for novel learning opportunities
  • Conducts site visits (either in person or virtually)

Evaluation of preceptors and sites (for quality assurance and improvement) with view to offering the highest quality of placement experiences possible

  • Works with the Director to review current evaluation processes, reporting mechanisms, and implements changes as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must hold a BScPharm or PharmD and be eligible for licensure with ACP.
  • Considerable pharmacy practice experience and involvement with professional organizations and/or multiple facets of the pharmacy profession is required.
  • Must have a broad understanding of quality pharmacist practice currently and in future. 
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, time management skills are required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior teaching experience in a post-secondary setting is an asset.
  • Project management experience or certification are desirable.
