Position description

The Department of Psychiatry at McGill University is currently inviting applications for a full-time position as a member of the Contract Academic Staff at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor (Clinical). The rank will be according to the candidate’s qualifications and experience. This will be a three-year, renewable appointment and does not confer eligibility for tenure.

The successful candidate will provide both clinical and academic leadership in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. The applicant will also have an academic track record, demonstrated by a research dossier and/or experience in education. The candidate will be appointed to clinical practice at the McGill University Health Centre.

The McGill Department of Psychiatry and its Division of Child Psychiatry offers a dynamic academic environment with extensive inter-departmental and multi-disciplinary research, clinical and teaching opportunities. The Department participates in teaching at all levels including undergraduate, graduate and medical students, medical residents and postdoctoral and clinical fellows. Opportunities are available to develop existing areas of excellence and build new areas of strength across the three McGill hospitals that form the Division of Child Psychiatry: the Montreal Children’s Hospital of the McGill University Health Centre, the Douglas Hospital and the Jewish General Hospital.

As Director of the McGill’s Division of Child Psychiatry and Chief of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the Montreal Children’s Hospital the successful applicant will be responsible, with the assistance and collaboration of a potential Associate Clinical Director, for the organization and planning of child psychiatry clinical services. He/she will manage teaching and research activities and ensure resources are aligned with institutional priorities. The successful applicant, in collaboration with the Chair of Psychiatry, will oversee recruitment and direct the academic activities of McGill's Division of Child Psychiatry.

The Montreal Children’s Hospital (MCH), part of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC), is a world leader in specialized mental health care for children and adolescent.  More specifically, the MCH ensures access to comprehensive, high-quality and timely services to the population served by the institution in collaboration with all professionals in the integrated health and social services network. Where appropriate, the MCH undertakes along with McGill University teaching, research and assessments of technologies and medical interventions in the department.  The MCH provides quality care to all patients who are admitted or treated in all services of the CAP department and ensures the added value and the innovation of the services offered.

Job Duties

The successful applicant will be expected to:

• Collaborate with all partners to ensure ongoing excellence in the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the Montreal Children’s Hospital – McGill University Health Centre.
• Oversee the Division of Child Psychiatry in the Department of Psychiatry (McGill University).
• Engage in all aspects of a university-affiliated psychiatry department (clinical, education, and research).
• Represent the Department/Division at regional, provincial and national bodies, including the Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux.
• Provide excellent clinical teaching and supervision to residents and medical students and develop an innovative and externally funded independent research program to pursue scholarly activities.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

• Must hold an MD and hold or be eligible for licensure as a psychiatrist in the province of Quebec;
• Clinician-scientists with MD-PhD are encouraged to apply;
• A  good working knowledge of French or a commitment to become fluent in French is necessary;
• Applicants should have substantial administrative experience and a commitment to research and academic excellence with a recognized international reputation.
