About the Position:

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering invites applications from qualified candidates for a preliminary, tenure track appointment in Fire Safety Engineering at the rank of Associate or Assistant Professor beginning July 1, 2022.

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering is seeking to hire an outstanding faculty member with a strong background in Fire Safety Engineering. The Department is particularly interested to receive applications from candidates with demonstrated research expertise in fire dynamics, fire modelling and physical experiments related to fire behaviour, fire spread, and smoke transport. Expertise in the following fields will be considered as an asset: fire risk analysis, material combustion and flammability, fire spread in the built environment, sustainable/green building fire safety, and resilience assessment of civil infrastructures under the effects of fires.

About the Academic Unit:

The Department offers dynamic, innovative, and cross‐disciplinary undergraduate and graduate programs in Civil Engineering and Environmental Engineering, and undergraduate program in Architectural Conservation and Sustainability. The Department has diverse expertise over a wide range of experimental, numerical, and analytical research areas in geotechnical, environmental, fire safety, structural and transportation engineering. Graduate programs are offered through the Ottawa‐Carleton Institutes for Civil Engineering and for Environmental Engineering to provide further strength and opportunities. The Department has a world‐class strong floor facility, a recently established CFI funded multi‐hazard test facility for built infrastructure protection and resilience, and a fire lab with a cone calorimeter, a smoke chamber and a lateral flame spread apparatus. Qualifications:

Candidates must have a Ph.D. or be in the final stages of obtaining their Ph.D. in civil engineering or a related engineering discipline. The successful candidate must have a demonstrated record of or commitment to research excellence through high quality publications; have the strong ability to develop an externally funded, high quality research program; be committed to effective and excellence in teaching; and contribute to the academic life of the Department. Synergy to establish collaborative research links with existing members of the Department and across the University is highly desirable.

Membership in a Canadian professional engineering association is required at the time of appointment or within five (5) years of appointment.
