Description:

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Toronto’s Temerty Faculty of Medicine, along with the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Sinai Health, are seeking a full-time physician with subspecialty training in Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) with a focus in Fetal Medicine. The successful candidate will be resourced to hold an academic position description of Clinician Investigator and must be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment at the minimum rank of assistant professor at the University of Toronto. Applications from individuals at the higher ranks of associate professor or professor are welcome. The anticipated start date will be by 2024 at a mutually agreeable date.

Sinai Health is a leader in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Neonatology, with one of the largest programs and services in Canada. It is a fully affiliated teaching hospital with the University of Toronto and is associated with the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute, an institute of international recognition in which research in women’s and infants’ health forms a major component. The MFM Division at Sinai Health provides consultation and care with a full spectrum of clinical programs, including Fetal Diagnosis & Therapy, Medical Disorders of Pregnancy, Prenatal Diagnosis and Medical Genetics, Placental Disorders, Complex Obstetric Surgery, and the Prevention of Prematurity. The Division services a metropolitan population of more than 6.5 million people. The Division actively collaborates with pediatric subspecialists at The Hospital for Sick Children via the newly established Ontario Fetal Centre. The Division has formal affiliations providing MFM services at Trillium Health Partners and Scarborough Health Network.

The successful candidate will provide consultation and ongoing care focused on fetal diagnoses through the Fetal Medicine Unit/Ontario Fetal Centre with the requisite clinical knowledge and skill to provide ultrasound assessment of fetal anatomy and anomaly, fetal growth and well-being and the assessment of complex placentation disorders. Clinical interest and expertise in advanced fetal sonography, specifically early anatomical fetal assessment and neuroimaging, is required.

The Division seeks to appoint an individual with established and proven investigative skills as this position requires engagement in research as it relates to obstetrical care and outcomes; a specific and established research portfolio in the area of preterm birth would be a recognized advantage. The successful candidate will be provided with up to two protected academic days to facilitate this work. The successful candidate will dedicate ~40% of their time to their scholarly activity to be supported by a salary stipend. The desirable qualities of the successful candidate would include an appropriate graduate degree (MSc or PhD), and/or a strong and focused publication track record with senior/first authorship, successful grant procurement, and a current active clinical and research portfolio. The candidate will provide Labor and Delivery coverage in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Obstetric Ultrasound reporting within the Joint Division of Medical Imaging.

Enthusiastic participation in all levels of our teaching and education mandate is expected and there will be teaching duties for learners in Maternal Fetal Medicine, Medical Genetics and Obstetrics and and Obstetrics and Gynaecology for both Undergraduate and Postgraduate Medical Education. The successful candidate will promote and demonstrate excellence in professional practices and conduct.

The successful candidate must hold an MD degree, must either be licensed or eligible for medical licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, and must either be board-certified (or eligible for certification) in the sub-specialty of MFM by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) or have achieved an equivalent level of regulated sub-specialty training in MFM.

Compensation will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The position will be placed in the Hospital Department Practice Plan with an anticipated gross annual compensation greater than $200,000 (estimated based on fee-for-service billings).

Applications will be accepted until January 22nd, 2024, or until the position is filled.
