The Inuit Circumpolar Council Canada is looking for two (2) part-time Archives Assistants to assist the Archivist with all aspects of the ICC Canada’s Archives. Under the supervision of the Archivist, the Archives Assistant will arrange and describe records, write finding aids, digitize textual records and photographs; enter records in the archival database, and ensure the safe storage of records in accordance with professional archival standards and internal policies. ICC Canada Archives is a new archives – Archives Assistants will have the rare opportunity to assist in the creation of an archival repository.

Required Qualifications – Knowledge and skills:
• An interest in archives, and a basic understanding of what an Archives is;
• Ability to work independently, as well as cooperatively with the Archivist and the Archives Assistants;
• Superb organizational skills and attention to detail;
• Flexible in handing a variety of concurrent tasks, with solid time management abilities;
• Strong research skills, and the ability to synthesize information gathered through research;
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English;
• Ability to create written materials for online publication;
• Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office 365;
• Discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality;
• Good knowledge and understanding of Inuit culture, traditions, and issues.

Desired Qualifications – Knowledge and skills:
• Knowledge of written and/or spoken Inuktut;
• Familiarity with archival practices, methodologies, and theories, especially descriptive standards (RAD and ISAD(G));
• Familiarity with archival content management systems, especially AtoM;
• Experience in – or willing to learn – cataloguing library materials (LCSH, LCNAF, LACNAF and LC classification).

Education:
• High school diploma or equivalent;
• Enrolled in a university or college humanities or social sciences degree program or recently graduated from such a program (preferred: degree/diploma programs in Indigenous studies; archival studies, information management/library sciences, or museum studies);
• A combination of previous work experience providing the required skill and knowledge may be substituted for education requirements.

Other Information:
• Work is normally performed in a typical office work environment, including frequent use of a computer – remote work is NOT possible (ICC’s office in downtown Ottawa is on many public transportation routes);
• Limited exposure to physical risk;
• Travel to other libraries and archives in the greater Ottawa area may be required;
• Must have proof of COVID-19 vaccinations;
• Moderate physical activity, requires lifting up to 50 pounds and some standing and walking.
