NOTE: This is a temporary position ending on or before March 31, 2025 with the possibility of extension.

 

Reporting to the Director of Academic Operations, this position will oversee the sponsorship of Apprenticeship Students within their assigned portfolio.  The coordinator will be responsible for the coordination and improvement of processes for NAIT as a sponsor of apprentices.  This position requires a high level of initiative, professionalism, strong communication skills, organization and attention to detail, and a support-focused mindset to provide excellent service-focused interactions with students.

The purpose of this position is to promote pathways for people to enter the skilled trades, through building relationships with students, employers/industry representatives, and NAIT staff.  The person in this position works very closely with operational & academic leadership within the school, as well as NAIT’s diversity and inclusion team, to support key strategies such as Women in Skilled Trades initiative, to ensure that students are successful in their education pathway and apprenticeship progression towards their red seal. 


Key Responsibilities:

Coordination of Apprenticeship sponsorship, and promoting pathways into apprenticeship, including”

  • Sponsorship for apprenticeship program progression and completion.
  • Sign apprenticeship education agreements.
  • Support apprentices in finding employment opportunities.
  • Assist in finding high-quality paid on-the-job instruction.
  • Collaborate with other sponsors, as needed, to provide apprentices with experience in the full scope of the profession.
  • Ensure mentor responsibilities and ratios are met, including mentor-to-apprentice ratios.
  • Maintain employment records for apprentices.
  • Ensure forms, documents, and records of period completion are submitted.

Relationship/Brand Management

  • Create and maintain relationships for students with both internal and external stakeholders to provide employment opportunities in their apprenticeship. 

Recruitment, Data Collection & Reporting

  • Coordinate with the project team and NAIT’s Marketing & Communications department to contribute to the development a multi-year media campaign to promote initiatives such as Women in Trades.
  • Leverage data to promote opportunities to eligible participants.
  • Collect data and measure project results for supported participants.
  • Prepare routine reporting on project progress.

Enrollment Awareness

  • Monitoring students and employment prospects to ensure that we have placement opportunities for NAIT-sponsored apprenticeship students.
  • Guide eligible participants on AIT and NAIT enrolment practices to support the participant’s enrolment in their program of choice .

Student Support

  • Connect Apprentices to resources for financial support and academic success.
  • Awareness of EDI and its impact on apprenticeship; works closely with the EDI Coordinator supporting the project.

Engagement

  • Coordinate and facilitate related networking events, advisory committees, and conferences in collaboration with project coordinators.
  • Collaborate with project coordinators to recruit partners for industry networking nights and media campaigns.

 

Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. 
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) 
  • Strong written and verbal communication 
  • Proven ability to build strong partnerships and manage conflicts effectively. 
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision.  
  • Evening and weekend work may be required
  • Ability to travel off campus as required

                                                          

Qualifications:

  • Relevant Posts-secondary Education (degree, diploma and/or Journeyperson Certificate with Red seal)
  • 3-5 years of related experience
  • Equivalencies may be considered
  • Divers license
  • Due to the focus of this position on supporting the Women in Skilled Trades initiative, preference may be given to women with experience in the trades or to applicants with extensive experience supporting women in the trades

 

Remuneration: $61,997.52 - $ 83,085.08 annually, plus a comprehensive benefits package. (Classification – Coordinator I).

This position is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Collective Agreement.
