AMHSP Academic Position for Movement Disorders Neurologist with Sleep Expertise, Division of Neurology

The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Medicine, Division of Neurology in partnership with Alberta Health Services, invites applications for a Movement Disorders Neurologist with Sleep expertise as a Clinician Investigator to be based at the University of Alberta Hospital and Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital.  Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the Faculty has been internationally recognized as among the world’s top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions.  The University is currently home to more than 38,000 students with more than 15,000 faculty and staff.  

The Division of Neurology consists of 60 neurologists in academic and community practice and 3 Scientists.  UA is one of the largest stroke programs in Canada.  Internationally recognized research is conducted and published from UA.  All subspecialties of neurology are represented among the faculty in addition to stroke including:  Autoimmune and Multiple Sclerosis, Cognitive Neurology, Epilepsy, Movement Disorders, Neuromuscular and ALS, Autonomic Neurophysiology, and Headache Clinic.  We have 5 research chairs among our Division.  Neurology holds multiple CIHR, NIH, PCORI and other prestigious external grants.  Our Neurology residency program is strong and accepts 5-6 residents/year.  Stroke has an active, successful fellowship program with 7 fellows.  Other subspecialties have fellowship programs as well resulting in a rich training environment. 

The successful candidate will be an MD (or equivalent) with certification in Neurology with the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada, be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA) and completed separate fellowships in both Movement Disorders and Sleep Neurology. 

Key accountabilities of the Movement Disorders neurologist will include, but will not be limited to fair and equitable inpatient neurology service and night call, ambulatory clinics in movement disorders and sleep medicine and education activities in undergraduate medical, postgraduate medical training and fellowship training.  The successful candidate must conduct independent research and meet accountabilities as per the Department of Medicine Research Grid.  

The successful candidate will be offered a contingent tenured or tenure-track appointment in the Department of Medicine, with the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor, which is in accordance with the University of Alberta Faculty Agreement, and offers a comprehensive benefits package. 

Remuneration for this position is based on the Academic Medicine & Health Services Program (AMHSP). Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
