The Colleges of Nursing and Pharmacy & Nutrition are collaborating in their search for a dynamic and passionate fundraiser to join their colleges. Divided between the two colleges, this role will spend approximately 0.50FTE of their time with each college, to ensure an equitable distribution of support.

The College of Nursing is the largest non-departmentalized college at the University of Saskatchewan. As a distributed college, nursing operates as one academic unit from three main locations in the province: Saskatoon, Regina and Prince Albert. A variety of activities occurs at each primary site including teaching, learning, research, administration, and community development. In addition to our primary sites, undergraduate nursing education is available to students from several distributed sites across the province. The use of innovative practices and leading distributed learning technology allows students to learn where they live.

Established as the School of Pharmacy in 1913, the College of Pharmacy and Nutrition now has a unique combination of two health disciples and professional programs. The College serves as a model for integrating health promotion and education, health care delivery, community outreach and engagement, and interdisciplinary research. Researchers within Pharmacy and Nutrition advance knowledge and pursue solutions to health and healthcare system issues through three streams: Clinical and Applied Health Research, Nutrition Science, and Drug Discovery and Development.

Primary Purpose: Tosignificantlyincreaseanddiversifyrevenueto boththeCollege of Nursing and College of Pharmacy and Nutritionbyobtainingphilanthropic support from donors and prospects (including individuals, corporations, foundations) who havethe interest andcapacitytomakegifts.You willplan,develop,solicit,andmanageaportfolioofdonorsandprospectivedonorswhohavethe interest andfinancialcapacitywiththegoalofmaximizinganddiversifyingfinancialsupportforboth colleges.

Nature of Work: This position will report to both the Dean, College of Nursing and the Dean, College of Pharmacy & Nutrition with a dotted line reporting relationship to the Associate Vice-President Advancement and Chief Development Officer.

You will build and maintain collaborative professional relationships with a cross-section of prospects/donors, faculty, staff, alumni, students, volunteers, university relations, and other stakeholders to meet stated objectives. You will garner an in-depth understanding of College programs, needs, and stakeholders. The work requires a proactive approach in a complex environment and the ability to communicate effectively to a diverse audience by a variety of methods and communication mediums. You will work both independently and collaboratively with university relations, alumni relations and communications specialists, college faculty and administration, and key stakeholders to meet strategic goals. Establishing and maintaining positive relationships and modeling best practices is essential to success. This position makes discretionary decisions and uses judgment to determine appropriate procedures in alignment with legislative requirements and institutional policies. Accuracy and attention to detail is essential to ensure information provided to others is correct. The environment is dynamic and fast-paced. You will be knowledgeable about, and ensure alignment with, university fundraising policies and procedures and Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) guidelines and Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) ethical principles and standards. Travel, evening, and weekend work may be required. Consequence of error is significant to the reputation and profile of both Colleges and the University.

Accountabilities:

  •  Activelymanageaportfolioofcurrentandprospectivedonors at all levels, whohavetheabilityto make gifts to support college and institutionalgoals.
  •  Working with University Relations, identify and qualify new prospects for the college.
  •  Ensuresuccessthroughstrategiccultivation, solicitation and stewardship ofgiftprospects,includingpersonalvisitsandasks, andmovingprospectsfromidentificationtoclosure.
  •  Become knowledgeable ofcollege education and research programsandprojectstoidentify matches with donor interests
  •  Collaborate with communications, advancement and alumni relations staff asappropriatetoprepareproposals,reports,giftagreements,lettersandotherfundraisingmaterials,ensuring that the flow of information and materials is handled efficiently andsmoothly
  •  Ensurecontactswithdonorsandprospectivedonorsarerecordedinthe University alumnianddonordatabaseina timely and accurate manner and compile reports to supportmetrics
  •  Participateinadvancementtraining,andcollegeanduniversitymeetings,teamplanningandotheractivitiesthatcontributetoachievingcollegeanduniversity-widegoalsindevelopment, communications and alumnirelations
  •  Identify and bring forward planned giving leads from the Colleges to University Relations for discussion and planning.
  •  Develop a solid understanding of the University’s Indigenous engagement and Indigenization priorities.
  •  Work collaboratively with University Relations to develop strategies in order to increase philanthropic support to the Colleges.
  •  Be the key lead on weekly stewardship reports.
  •  Engage with and incorporate diverse cultural backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences.

Planning and Strategy:

  •   InconsultationwiththeDeans,develop, contribute to, and participate in anannualandmulti-yearfundraising plan that supports college priorities, programs andinitiatives
  •  Assist in the fostering of a culture of philanthropy within the Colleges thatpromptscollegeleadershipandfacultyto assist inmaintaining meaningful personal contact with donors andvolunteers
  •  Inform the Dean when donors are attending college alumniandreunioneventsandattendwhenappropriatetostrengthenengagementandbuildaffinitywithalumniand donors

Recognition and Stewardship:

  •   Maintain contact with internal and external donors and prospects to monitortheirsatisfactionandengagementandevaluateandreportonfundraisinginitiativesandprogressinmeetinggoals
  •  Strengthenlong-termrelationshipswithcollegedonorsbyensuringtheyarerecognizedinwaysthat are meaningful to them and that are in alignment with institutional recognitionguidelines
  •  Workcollaborativelywith University Relations and college staff and faculty toensureeffectiveproduction and coordination of annual stewardshipreports
  •  Ensure regular and consistent reporting of impact back to donors in a timely manner
  •  Run weekly stewardship reports for the colleges and distribute to the appropriate relationship managers to manage
  •  Seek opportunities and then permission from donors to engage in a donor spotlight story to demonstrate philanthropic impact and inspire others. Coordinate distribution of donor story with college communications and alumni staff through appropriate channels

Education: A relevant undergraduate degree and appropriate education and experience in a related field. CFRE designation would be considered an asset.

Experience: Three to five years of fundraising experience with a demonstrated progression in level of responsibility. Three to five years of experience in fundraising and major gifts would be preferred.  Knowledge of the University of Saskatchewan and an understanding of strategic planning, fundraising, sales, financial services, events management or alumni relations will be an asset. Experience working in a diverse and inclusive environment is required.
