The Role
The Instructor's role is to professionally manage the learning process of the students and to ensure that students achieve established learning objectives to the maximum of their potential. The instructor is to make use of any and all available resources, methods, techniques and strategies, to ensure student success. The candidate is expected to work collaboratively with colleagues to create a learning environment which is pedagogically sound, technically supported and innovative in nature.
We are currently building our talent pool for potential Online Asynchronous (i.e. Student Self-paced) opportunities during the 2024-2025 Academic Year. These courses are held within our Learner Management System, fully online, and do not have any scheduled facilitation components to them.
The purpose of this Broadcast Program that will provide industry partners with a fast track for students to enter the workforce within the Broadcast industry.
Courses in this program include:
MMDA 001 Video Systems and Standards and Instrumentation
MMDA 002 Video Imaging Recording and Playout
MMDA 003 Entertainment Automation
MMDA 004 Acoustics and Audio Systems
Note: Courses are not guaranteed; successful candidates will only be contacted if a teaching opportunity becomes available.
During the engagement, instructors are responsible for:
- Prepare and present lessons, lectures, assignments, quizzes, exams, lab activities and lab demonstrations for learners if applicable given the course outline
- Maintain records for the purposes of grading, assessing professionalism and tracking attendance
- Manage the classroom or lab to ensure a positive learning environment
- Show personal interest in the learner and create a climate conducive to optimal learning
- Provide on-going support, guidance and advice to students
- Assist in the maintenance of curriculum as needed to maintain up-to date and relevant learning
- Participate in curriculum/program review as needed
- Attend all SAIT training as required
- Achievement of School initiatives and Objectives
- Be an active and engaged member of the School
- Adhere to all safety legislation, guidelines and safety standards as required
- Maintain contact with relevant industry sectors
- All other duties as required for the position
Qualifications
- Required:
- 3-5 years related experience in the Broadcast Technology industry
- 3-5 years of experience instructing and building curriculum within a technical college/post-secondary institution
- Working knowledge and hands on experience with new up and coming Broadcast technologies
- Previous post-secondary education in a related field, or industry training
- Experience and fluency with Office 365 (MS Word, Outlook and PowerPoint)
- Experience with videoconferencing technology (MS Teams, WebX, Skype or Zoom)
- Fluent in English reading and vocabulary
- Comfortable speaking to the public
- Positive & respectful attitude
- Ability to read, interpret and deliver specific curriculum
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to organize and present written information
- Desired:
- Experience with a Learning Management System (Brightspace or Moodle is an asset)
- Training and knowledge of adult learning fundamentals
- Formal training or education in facilitation or teaching
- Formal training in online technologies
