Academic Tenure track position

The Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry at the University of Alberta is pleased to invite applications for a tenure-track position as an Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor in the area of Predictive Analytics and Natural Language Processing.  The successful applicant will work closely with clinicians and clinician scientists across the Faculty, as well as relevant stakeholders from Alberta Health Services. They will collaborate closely with the AHS Chair in Artificial Intelligence Applied to Health to advance expertise in the training, development, and facilitation of AI applications to clinical data focusing in the areas of predictive analytics and natural language processing (NLP) and the development of an educational program to increase capacity of highly qualified personnel in AI and health. This position is part of a University of Alberta cluster hire in the areas of research strength that include Health, Energy and Indigenous Initiatives in health and humanities, among others. The University of Alberta is world-renowned for its strength in AI; this cohort will bring together and foster the next generation of scientists leading the development of AI and machine learning for societal benefit and support the faculty and university objective of advancing precision health and accelerate the integration of AI into clinical care. The Faculty seeks expertise that complements its existing strengths and this appointment will be made in the Department of Medicine. The successful candidate will initiate, lead, and collaborate in research activities, liaise with Alberta Health Services, compete for external research funding, contribute to the Department's undergraduate and graduate programs, including teaching and assisting with administration.

Successful candidates may have the opportunity to be nominated for a Canada CIFAR Artificial Intelligence Chair, if the appointment advances the strategic considerations of the University of Alberta Precision Health Signature Area, and the research interests of the Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute (Amii).

Skills & Experience

The successful candidate has a:

• PhD with strengths in health analytics and data science research, such as computer science, biostatistics, mathematics, health sciences, AI, engineering, information technology or a closely related area
• Proven record of high-quality research achievements
• Prior experience with the use of health data in the area of NLP and predictive analytics
• Strong potential for productive interactions with clinicians and researchers in the Faculty and in related disciplines across the University of Alberta
