The Opportunity
Reporting to Associate Dean, the Academic Chair will lead a portfolio of educational programs within SADT, specific to the delivery of Media Technology programming. This role will lead program quality initiatives and continued enrollment growth that will continue to contribute to the advancement of SAIT’s reputation as a leader in advanced technologies through applied and work-integrated learning opportunities. The Academic Chair will oversee the identification and development of curriculum, course delivery operations, and evidence-based continuous improvement of the program. In support of program success, the Academic Chair will foster relationships with industry partners, faculty, and internal SAIT stakeholders to ensure relevant curriculum in support of student and graduate success towards SAIT’s reputation as the premiere educational institution in Alberta.
The Academic Chair will also collaborate and contribute to the school and institutional initiatives connected to SAIT’s Strategic Plan and Education Plan, in the areas of student success, employee engagement, and innovation in applied education and partnerships.

The Role
    • Lead the development of program strategic plan in the area that addresses quality
    • Lead continuous improvement initiatives
    • Leading the team to develop students’ skills around complex technologies with pragmatic, measurable outcomes
    • Enhance curriculum using input from industry partners and best practices from other post-secondary institutions to deliver high-quality education
    • Lead efforts in collaboration with the Associate Dean to establish the school as a recognized center of excellence in advanced technologies
    • Be an ambassador for SAIT, SADT, its students, and alumni in the community
    • Grow opportunities for students to participate in work-integrated learning with industry partners 
    • Contribute to improvement of program operations 
    • Oversee recruitment of faculty and their mentorship in their delivery of course material, student engagement, and professional development
    • Set strategic objectives and direction to support the achievement of short, medium and long-term goals as established by the Dean
    • Responsible for resource management, scheduling, and recommendations for growth based on market demand to ensure an effective learning environment for learners
    • Set and meet budget objectives associated with program operations

Qualifications & Experience
    • Master’s degree in a related field with minimum of 5 years industry experience. Other combinations of related education and industry experience will be considered
    • Leadership experience in a relevant industry with a broad understanding of current and emerging trends in technology
    • Ability to make decision based on data and evidence
    • Demonstrate understanding of quality assurance in curriculum
    • Demonstrate exceptional financial and business acumen
    • Experience leading change in a large and complex organization
    • Exceptional product management skills from developing, launching, and continuously improving successful products. Experience in curriculum development and delivery, or in a faculty/managerial role at a post-secondary institute ideal
    • Ability to build a cohesive and collaborative team
    • Possess an entrepreneurial mindset (forward & flexible) with comfort taking risks and identifying new opportunities
    • Ability to effectively mentor and support employees
    • Ability to positively influence and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders (partnership)
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills 

Job Classification: Academic Chair
Salary: $120,098.48
Paid Leave: 4 Weeks Vacation/14 Flex Days per year
Hours Per Week: 37.5
