The Opportunity
Academic Services is focused on creating and supporting services and processes that enable and enrich SAIT students’ experience. Academic Services brings together academic development, delivery, and quality assurance of learning systems. Through a diverse range of flexible programming, Academic Services helps students succeed at SAIT.
Reporting to the Associate Dean, Academic Services, the Academic Chair, Math, Engineering, Sciences (MES), and Philosophy is a non-teaching, supervisory position providing leadership and operational management activities for the MES and Philosophy portfolios in Academic Services. In addition, the successful candidate will provide support for our students, and our faculty, and will be part of the Academic Services leadership team where they will help manage activities relating to the Strategic Plan, Academic Plan and the departmental and institutional strategic plan. The successful candidate will also manage administration and operational activities, including budgeting, forecasting, strategic planning, instructional loading and scheduling, health and safety inspections.
The Role

    • Integrate a vision, strategy and implementation plan for area in alignment with SAIT’s 5-year strategic plan
    • Demonstrate excellent employee leadership, while focusing on skill development and opportunities for advancement
    • Collaborate across Academic Services to ensure programming and delivery meet the required needs of learners
    • Intentional Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) focused decision making
    • Support program initiatives according to SAIT’s Academic, Education and Strategic plans
    • Support SAIT’s academic quality assurance processes

    • Employee management and development - 50%
    • Assign teaching loads in alignment with instructor competencies and the collective agreement
    • Recruit, onboard, train, and support new faculty and lab staff for all delivery modalities
    • Collaborate with Employee Services on ensuring efficient hiring and payment of contract faculty 
    • Promote employee engagement and collaboration, and provide opportunities for professional development
    • Review and uphold policies and procedures including the student code of conduct with Instructors as well as SAIT’s Collective Agreements

    • Student Success - 25%
    • Champion a student first culture by being available and visible to students, faculty and staff on an ongoing basis
    • Create strategies in support of positive student engagement, recruitment, and retention
    • Work collaboratively with advising teams of affiliated programs to ensure a quality student experience
    • Optimize student experience through review and management of student feedback questionnaires and respond to student concerns and issues in a timely manner
    • Conduct academic integrity hearings and educate students on best practices
    • Coordinate Challenge and Supplementary Exams on an ad hoc basis

    • Manage Curricular Resources - 10%
    • Support curriculum design and renewal
    • Oversee proposals for internal and external funding
    • Evaluate coursework from other institutions for transfer credit
    • Participate in program and course quality assurance processes with accrediting bodies

    • Supervise Scholarly Activity - 5%
    • Participate in reporting to Campus Alberta Quality Council (CAQC)
    • Oversee PD and supplies budget to support scholarly projects
    • Assign Scholarly load in response to instructor project needs

Qualifications & Experience
    • Master’s Degree in a relevant field or equivalent education 
    • Two years of leadership experience in post-secondary, adult education, service industry, or combination of the three areas (three years is preferred) 
    • Solid written, spoken, and interpersonal communications skills plus the ability to work well both independently and in teams
    • Teaching experience preferred
    • Doctorate in related field or Education preferred

Skills & Knowledge
    • Must possess a service-oriented mindset with exceptional attention to quality and client satisfaction 
    • Intermediate experience using Microsoft Office Suite
    • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
    • Excellent organizational and time management
    • Ability to process, synthesize and analyze data to make informed decisions
    • Must have a critical thinking and problem-solving mindset
    • Demonstrated experience in managing budget and making sustainable business decisions
    • Demonstrated leadership in diversity, equity, and inclusion practices, particularly as they impact indigenous communities and in light of Truth and Reconciliation 
    • Strong leadership skills, highly empathetic to the feelings of others and ability to provide feedback
    • Open and collaborative mindset
    • Ability to lead others through change
    • Organizational and time management proficiency

Salary: $120,098.48
Paid Leave: 4 Weeks Vacation / 14 Flex Days per year
Hours Per Week: 37.5
