Offer Description
The Thematic Project is part of a Brazil/Holland bilateral cooperation that aims to develop formulations to control citrus canker. The São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) funds the Brazilian part of the project while the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO) funds the Dutch part. Experiments are conducted at the São Paulo State University's Rio Claro Institute of Biosciences (IBRC-UNESP) and at the universities of Maastricht and Groningen, The Netherlands. The duration of the fellowship is two years, renewable for another 2 years depending on the candidate's commitment and performance. Successful applicants will be working in a multi-disciplinary environment coordinated by Prof. Henrique Ferreira and Dr. Michel Brienzo (IBRC-UNESP) and Prof. Dirk-Jan Scheffers (University of Groningen).
The selected candidate is expected to:
1) Evaluate the effectiveness of antibacterial compounds and formulations against Xanthomonas citri;
2) Determine the phytotoxicity of the formulations developed against indicator plants;
3) Interpret results of toxicity against pollinators and cytotoxicity against cellular models;
4) Evaluate the protective potential of citrus formulations against infection by X. citri (perform experiments in greenhouse and help field evaluations);
5) Monitor physiological parameters of citrus plants exposed to antibacterial formulations;
6) Interpret results of experiments to evaluate the stability of components, components of the formulations/defensives.
This opportunity is open to candidates of any nationality. The selected candidate will receive a FAPESP Post-Doctoral fellowship in the amount of R$ 9,047.40 monthly and a research contingency fund, equivalent to 10% of the annual value of the fellowship which should be spent on items directly related to the research activity.
