The Faculty of Social Sciences invites applications for the position of

UNIVERSITY LECTURER IN SOCIAL AND CULTURAL ANTHROPOLOGY

for a fixed term appointment beginning on 1 February 2022 or as agreed, and ending on 31 December 2025.

The duties of the university lecturer will include providing teaching in accordance with the anthropology requirements of the BA and MA programs of Society and Change, supervising and examining theses and dissertations, and conducting research. The person appointed to the position is also required to contribute towards the administrative work of the unit.

The discipline of Social and Cultural Anthropology is Finland’s largest anthropological research unit and has an active research environment that attracts highly talented students and hosts several large, internationally recognized research projects.The teaching of anthropology at the University of Helsinki emphasizes the tradition of fieldwork-based ethnographic research through which modern anthropology is connected to the central questions and issues of sciences concerned with culture, society and human behavior. QUALIFICATIONS

The appointee shall hold an applicable doctoral degree and the ability to provide high-quality teaching based on research and to supervise theses and dissertations. The degree requirement must be met by the end of the application deadline. The curriculum includes courses taught in Finnish and English, and in order to successfully attend to the duties of the position, the appointee must have good knowledge of both languages.

When assessing the qualifications of each applicant, attention will be paid to:
• Scholarly publications
• Research activity
• Other scholarly activities
• Teaching experience, supervision of theses and dissertations and other pedagogical merits, pedagogical training, the development of teaching, the production of learning material
• The applicant's teaching demonstration
• The interview with the applicant.

In addition, we give particular consideration to proactive and innovative research pursuits, international publications and research networks, versatile knowledge of research methods and the ability to teach them, and success in the acquisition of external research funding.

The annual gross salary range will be approx. €44,000–65,500, depending on the appointee’s qualifications and experience.
