Discipline of cognitive science is part of Faculty of Arts and Department of Digital Humanities together with disciplines of phonetics and language technology. Cognitive science is taught in the international Master's Programme in Linguistic Diversity and Digital Humanities (LingDig).

for a fixed-term employment 1 September 2021 – 31 August 2025.

The duties of the university lecturer include providing teaching in accordance with the degree requirements, supervising and examining theses, conducting research in the field and attending to any other duties related to the discipline. The appointee’s duties also include participating in the planning and development of teaching. The activities of the discipline of cognitive science at the University of Helsinki are based on research and related teaching. The position of university lecturer in cognitive science focuses on teaching, and the appointee is expected to have strong competence and teaching experience in various fields of cognitive science. During the academic year 2021–2022, the university lecturer will teach the following courses: Johdatus kognitiotieteeseen (in Finnish), Scientific Reasoning, Philosophy of Artificial Intelligence, Ethics of Artificial Intelligence, Current Topics in Cognitive Science (on the Cognitive Basis of Biases and Nudges). Place of work is Helsinki.

A university lecturer must hold an applicable doctoral degree and be able to provide high-quality teaching based on research and to supervise theses and dissertations. When assessing the qualifications of applicants for a university lectureship, attention will be paid to scientific publications and other research results of scientific value, teaching experience and pedagogical training, the ability to produce learning materials, other teaching merits and, if necessary, a teaching demonstration. In addition, the position requires good cooperation and communication skills.

To successfully attend to the duties of the position, the appointee must have good skills in Finnish and English. Foreign citizens, non-native Finnish citizens or citizens who have not been educated in Finnish may be exempted from the Finnish language requirement of the Government Decree on Universities without a separate application.

The salary for the position will be based on levels 5−7 of the requirement scheme for teaching and research positions in the salary system of Finnish universities. In addition, a salary component based on personal performance will be paid. The appointee’s gross monthly salary will range from €3,300 to €4,500, depending on one’s qualifications and experience. There is a six-month trial period.
