The Master’s Programme in Changing Education is a two-year international Master’s programme focusing on equity and equality of education, educational psychology and neuroscience as engines for change in education, and the Finnish education system.

The Department of Education at the Faculty of Educational Sciences invites applications for the position of

UNIVERSITY LECTURER

to the Changing Education Master’s Programme. The position is to be filled as of 1st January 2022.

The research area of the university lecturer is educational sciences, especially in the fields of teaching of the Changing Education Master’s Programme; 1) equality, equity and global justice in education, 2) educational psychology and neuroscience, and 3) the Finnish education system and didactics. The university lecturer takes part in teaching and teaching related planning of the programme. The teaching duties are mainly composed of courses and supervision of Master’s theses in the Changing Education programme in English, but it is possible to take part in teaching in Finnish or Swedish at the faculty, too. The university lecturer will conduct research in one of the fields of the Changing Education Master’s programme, take part in the activities of the programme, and work actively in the international and national academic networks in the field of education. Expertise in experimental, quantitative and qualitative research methods is considered an asset. In addition, the position includes some administrative tasks.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS AND SELECTION CRITERIA

An appointee to the position of university lecturer shall hold a suitable doctoral degree and have the teaching and thesis supervision skills necessary for the position.

The following are considered as assets for the applicant:
• Research merits in one of the teaching areas of Changing Education Master’s Programme
• Teaching experience in one of the teaching areas of Changing Education Master’s Programme
• International networks in research and development of teaching

In the selection, the following are assessed:
• Scientific publications
• Other scientific activities
• Teaching and supervision experience and other teaching merits
• Pedagogical training
• Development of teaching
• Production of learning materials
• Teaching demonstration in English
• Interview

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

The appointee must have written and oral competence in the language in which he or she provides instruction, in this case English language. Additionally, to successfully attend to the duties of the position, the appointee must have a level of Finnish or Swedish proficiency suitable for everyday communication.
Foreign citizens, non-native Finnish citizens or citizens who have not been educated in Finnish or Swedish may be exempted from this requirement without a separate application. If the appointee is not proficient in Finnish or Swedish, he or she must attain a level of Finnish or Swedish proficiency suitable for everyday communication within three years of taking up the position. The university offers support the appointee in learning Finnish or Swedish language.

SALARY AND BENEFITS

The annual gross salary of university lecturer in the beginning of employment varies between 39,000 and 60,000 euros depending on the appointee’s qualifications and experience. The trial period is 6 months.
